Principal Enterprise Technology Architect

CrusoeSan Francisco, CA
$225,000 - $255,000Onsite

About The Position

Crusoe is seeking a Principal Enterprise Technology Architect to define the technical vision for their internal business systems. This is a senior Individual Contributor role responsible for setting architectural standards for the Enterprise Technology organization. The company is at a critical stage, with existing platforms in Finance, Construction/Operations, and People, but they currently operate in silos. The primary goal is to design a unified architecture that connects these systems, including defining master data models, creating a scalable and event-driven integration layer, and establishing governance frameworks for AI integration. This is a greenfield role focused on system design, producing artifacts like ERDs, context diagrams, and sequence flows. While there is no formal people management, the role will guide contributors indirectly and serve as an integration and architecture subject matter expert. The role collaborates with existing domain owners, such as the IT Architect for iPaaS and the Identity Lead for IAM/PAM, focusing on enterprise-wide data-model and integration-pattern design.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience designing systems from the ground up, with examples of greenfield architecture work including ERDs, context diagrams, and data flow documentation.
  • 10-15+ years of experience in Enterprise Systems or Solutions Architecture, or equivalent depth of domain/architectural expertise.
  • At least 5+ years in a Solution Architect or Lead Systems Engineer role with a track record of sustained, recognized impact.
  • Deep familiarity with at least one of our core platform domains: ERP/Finance (Oracle Fusion Cloud, Coupa, Sage Intacct) or Construction/Ops (Procore, Oracle Primavera).
  • Strong understanding of business process flows, particularly Procure-to-Pay (P2P), Order-to-Cash (O2C), and Hire-to-Retire (H2R), and how they map to system data models.
  • Advanced SQL proficiency.
  • Deep fluency with web services (REST/SOAP, JSON, XML, Postman).
  • Experience operating as a senior technical resource without formal authority, advising peers, running design reviews, and influencing stakeholders through expertise.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and develop senior colleagues and guide contributors indirectly.
  • Comfort making strategic calls under significant ambiguity, reading urgency correctly, and finding efficient resolution paths on programs with Crusoe-wide visibility.
  • Ability to work onsite in San Francisco or Denver.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with an enterprise iPaaS platform (Workato preferred; MuleSoft, Boomi, or equivalent considered), including building complex integrations, custom connectors, and managing integration lifecycle management.
  • Familiarity with our full platform stack: Oracle Fusion Cloud, Coupa, Sage Intacct, Procore, Oracle Primavera, Rippling, Ashby.
  • Experience building AI-enabled enterprise applications, including agentic AI, RAG, LLM orchestration, MCP, or vector databases, and evaluating them for business-system use cases.
  • Cloud-native architecture exposure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and familiarity with event-driven integration patterns (e.g., pub/sub, webhooks).
  • Certifications: Workato Automation Pro II/III, TOGAF, or AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in high-growth technology or infrastructure companies navigating the startup-to-enterprise transition.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical discovery for major system initiatives, producing artifacts like ERDs, system context diagrams, data flow maps, and sequence diagrams.
  • Assess current platform limitations and define future paths, including optimization, re-platforming, or building custom integration layers.
  • Serve as the primary technical evaluator during software procurement, assessing vendors on API robustness, data model flexibility, and security compliance.
  • Identify and document integration debt and develop a roadmap for its resolution.
  • Participate in Architecture Review Board discussions to ensure system changes align with enterprise standards.
  • Partner with platform SMEs and administrators to define a unified approach to master data.
  • Co-develop reusable integration patterns, error-handling frameworks, and self-healing workflows with the IT Architect.
  • Drive integration architecture towards API-first, event-driven patterns.
  • Define how internal systems authenticate and communicate, enforcing secure API standards.
  • Partner with the AI & Automation Staff Engineer to identify opportunities for embedding AI into enterprise systems.
  • Contribute enterprise architecture perspective to AI and automation team's evaluation of AI technologies and frameworks.
  • Partner with InfoSec and Data teams to ensure AI-enabled workflows meet privacy, security, and audit requirements.
  • Serve as the go-to architecture and integration resource for senior system administrators on complex cross-system initiatives.
  • Conduct design and configuration reviews, provide architectural guidance, and help administrators with integration trade-offs.
  • Establish shared standards for documentation, sandbox management, and change control.
  • Establish "Rules of the Road" for the Enterprise Technology team, including naming conventions, sandbox management, documentation standards, and change control processes.
  • Partner with InfoSec to ensure architectural designs meet SOC2 and SOX requirements.
  • Partner with the Identity Lead to ensure RBAC models are secure and operationally efficient.
  • Define architectural review processes and quality standards for enterprise systems initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary bridge between business needs and technical execution, representing the Enterprise Technology team to stakeholders.
  • Communicate architectural trade-offs clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Build credibility and trust with business partners through consistent communication and follow-through.
