Principal Engineer

VSG Business Solutions•Miami, FL

About The Position

As a Principal Engineer in the Global eCommerce Engineering organization, this is a senior individual-contributor technical leadership role—not a people-management role. The Principal Engineer shapes the end-to-end architecture, engineering standards, and long-term roadmap for the digital commerce platform, influencing teams and systems across the stack. The platform combines React-based single-page applications and Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) headful pages with Node.js and Java APIs, GraphQL federation, and AWS cloud infrastructure. The role provides architectural direction across frontend, backend, infrastructure, and integrations; establishes patterns that let application domains build independently while composing into coherent experiences; and leads technical discovery, reviews, and modernization efforts. It also leads frontend strategy and React/AEM interoperability, platform integration and reliability standards, and cross-team technical alignment. A central responsibility is championing AI adoption. The Principal Engineer will build and guide production agentic AI solutions for customer experiences and internal engineering workflows, evaluate and standardize AI tools, and help engineers adopt AI-assisted development through examples, practices, workshops, and guidance. The role also advances platform health, performance, security, developer experience, technical standards, and engineering culture through strategic initiatives and mentorship.

Requirements

  • 10 or more years of software engineering experience, with demonstrated depth across frontend and backend disciplines.
  • Proven experience as a technical leader and senior individual contributor who sets standards, drives architecture, and influences teams without direct management authority.
  • Expert-level knowledge of React, Next.js, micro-frontend architecture, SPAs, and component-driven design.
  • Deep Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) experience, including headful/headless integration patterns, Editable Templates, component authoring, and frontend/AEM interoperability.
  • Hands-on experience designing and implementing production-grade agentic AI solutions, including autonomous agents, multi-agent orchestration, tool-integrated reasoning workflows, and RAG pipelines, and taking systems from proof of concept through scalable production deployment.
  • Strong backend proficiency with Node.js, Fastify, GraphQL federation and schema design, and Java services.
  • Knowledge of Redis caching strategies, MongoDB database design, and API performance patterns.
  • Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, container-based deployments, and GitHub Actions-based CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of DevSecOps, SOX compliance, and security standards in regulated environments.
  • Ability to communicate technical vision, trade-offs, and architectural decisions to engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Experience optimizing frontend performance, including Core Web Vitals, bundle strategies, SSR/SSG, lazy loading, and observability.
  • Demonstrated experience with Design Systems, governance, implementation standards, and cross-team adoption.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or LLM-integrated workflows, and interest in advancing AI adoption in software engineering.
  • Experience integrating AI/ML models from proof of concept through production deployment.
  • Background in eCommerce, travel, or other high-transaction digital platforms.
  • Experience defining and driving developer experience (DevEx) improvements at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Own and drive the end-to-end technical roadmap for the eCommerce platform across frontend, backend, infrastructure, and integrations.
  • Define and enforce architecture standards for the micro-frontend platform, including React SPAs, AEM headful pages, and shared platform services.
  • Establish integration patterns and design contracts that enable application domain teams to build independently and compose seamlessly.
  • Identify and resolve cross-team architectural conflicts and serve as a technical authority for cross-cutting design decisions.
  • Lead technical discovery, proofs of concept, architectural reviews, platform modernization, and emerging technology adoption.
  • Define frontend architecture standards and the strategy for React/AEM interoperability, including component authoring, client-side hydration, Editable Templates, and content-driven experiences.
  • Drive frontend performance, Design System evolution, AEM developer workflows, accessibility, coding standards, and unit, integration, and end-to-end testing practices.
  • Provide technical leadership and standards for GraphQL APIs, Node.js/Fastify microservices, and Java services.
  • Define frontend-to-backend integration patterns and standards for caching, data persistence, and service reliability.
  • Guide infrastructure decisions with platform and DevOps teams, including AWS, Kubernetes, container orchestration, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Ensure backend services meet performance, security, and compliance requirements, including SOX and DevSecOps standards.
  • Lead adoption of AI-assisted coding and development practices and architect, design, and implement production agentic AI systems for customer experiences and internal SDLC tooling.
  • Research, evaluate, and standardize GenAI tools and workflows; develop and share AI practices, playbooks, and workshops; and identify high-impact AI opportunities with engineering managers and product leaders.
  • Monitor relevant AI advancements and advise leadership on tools, techniques, and risks.
  • Collaborate with engineering managers, product managers, UX designers, and QA leads to design cohesive end-to-end solutions.
  • Advise application domain owners on technical feasibility, trade-offs, and integration, and proactively surface and resolve cross-team dependencies.
  • Translate strategic priorities and technical constraints for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Elevate engineering craft through code and architecture reviews, technical writing, workshops, and hands-on pairing.
  • Define and maintain engineering standards, patterns, and documentation; develop emerging technical leaders; and foster engineering excellence, psychological safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead measurable technical-debt reduction initiatives and establish and monitor platform health metrics for performance, reliability, security, and developer experience.
  • Balance long-term platform investments with near-term delivery and drive continuous improvement against platform health benchmarks.
