About The Position

Milwaukee Tool is seeking a Principal Design Engineer to join their electrical engineering teams. This role involves contributing to the design and development of new products and supporting existing products, with a focus on electrical engineering, firmware engineering, power electronics, embedded systems, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. The company emphasizes innovation and provides resources for engineers to develop disruptive technologies. The Principal Design Engineer will act as a chief technical resource and mechanical engineering leader on new product development projects, providing engineering information, establishing test regimens, and performing data analysis. They will also serve as a technical resource and mentor to others, manage technical teams, and provide technical guidance to meet cost, performance, and schedule requirements. The role involves executing calculations and software-aided analyses in areas such as mechanical stress, tolerance stack, gearing design, sound and vibration, and mechanism development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Mechanics, Masters preferred.
  • 10 years of design experience.
  • Strong proficiency in 3D CAD – ProE, Solidworks, NX, or similar as well as FEA.
  • Strong experience with FEA.
  • Deep mechanical aptitude is required including a broad knowledge of engineering materials, mechanical properties and an understanding of the manufacturing processes associated with these materials.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% (travel includes Domestic and International).
  • High interest in tools of the construction trades.

  • Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Mechanics.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the chief technical resource and mechanical engineering leader on mid/high complexity Power Tool New Product Development projects.
  • Provide clear engineering information to Project Leaders and Global Engineering teams to facilitate trade-off decisions.
  • Establish test regimens for components and assemblies within the area of scope in the project with minimal guidance.
  • Deliver complete data analysis to support design recommendations.
  • Independently develop, write, and analyze testing reports in an internal laboratory.
  • Serve as a technical resource on areas of expertise and provide consultation/mentorship to others.
  • Effectively manage a technical team and provide technical guidance on complex programs to achieve cost, performance, and schedule requirements.
  • Execute a wide variety of calculations and software aided analyses in the following areas: Mechanical stress analysis, Tolerance stack analyses, Gearing design – preferred, Sound and vibration / response of dynamic systems, Mechanism development and analysis.
