Must be a US citizen. Unable to hire dual citizens, green card holders or visa holders for this position. About the Role We are looking for a deeply experienced software engineer to serve as the technical lead for our Simulation Workbench (SimWB) team. SimWB is our real-time hardware-in-the-loop simulation platform, running on real-time Linux and driving a wide range of I/O hardware. As the most senior engineer on the team, you will work in the core of the product, including the real-time scheduler and configuration server, own significant subsystems end to end, and set the technical direction the rest of the team builds on. You will partner with the team’s Manager on roadmap and architecture decisions. This is a hands-on senior individual contributor role with broad technical authority and no direct reports.

Requirements

10+ years of software development experience in a Linux environment
Expert-level C and C++, with solid working knowledge of Java
Demonstrated experience with real-time systems, including scheduling, determinism, and performance analysis
Hands-on experience with I/O boards and device-level software, including reading hardware documentation and bringing up new boards
Experience owning a significant subsystem or product area end to end
Hands-on experience with MATLAB and Simulink, including integrating Simulink models into a real-time execution environment (highly preferred)
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience

Nice To Haves

Experience with hardware-in-the-loop or man-in-the-loop simulation platforms
Linux kernel or device driver development experience, including real-time kernel variants
Experience with other third-party modeling and simulation tools such as Dymola, Adams, or rFpro, and with model exchange standards such as FMI/FMU
FPGA exposure, or experience integrating FPGA-based I/O into software products
Experience with Python and Java client or GUI development, including Swing or Qt
Master’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering

Responsibilities

Own and evolve core SimWB subsystems, including the real-time scheduler and the configuration server
Design, implement, and debug I/O support for our own cards, including our FPGA cards, as well as for protocols such as EtherCAT, ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553, CAN, and serial and Ethernet interfaces.
Develop and maintain the SimWB SDK and API surfaces used by customers and by internal teams
Diagnose and resolve complex real-time issues involving timing, determinism, and hardware/software integration
Provide the deepest level of technical escalation support for customer issues, working with the Support and Applications Engineering teams
Produce and maintain design documentation so that critical product knowledge is retained by the team
Serve as the technical lead for the team: set coding and design standards, review designs and code, mentor Lead and Senior Engineers, and raise the technical bar of the group
Partner with the SimWB Manager on roadmap and architecture decisions, and help assess the feasibility and effort behind proposed features
Evaluate new technologies and translate future product needs into engineering feasibility
