About The Position

Beehive Industries is seeking an energetic and driven Principal Engineer to spearhead the rotordynamics design, analysis, and development of innovative jet engine and rig designs incorporating new technologies. This role involves daily collaboration with hardware owners and cross-functional leadership to create and implement overall rotor and structural designs. Initially, the position will function as an individual contributor within a dynamic, self-directed startup environment. As the organization expands, the role will be responsible for scaling design capabilities to support additional projects, which may include future team leadership. The ability to develop leadership skills alongside the role will be crucial. The engineer will utilize their judgment to balance complex and conflicting program requirements, proposing solutions to optimize product performance and ensuring proper documentation of technical data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college.
  • At least 12 years of experience in gas turbine rotordynamics.
  • Significant experience with Rotordynamics software (Dyrobes preferred, XLRotor, XLTRC, OEM in-house codes, etc. acceptable) for analyzing critical speeds, forced response, stability, etc.
  • Strong understanding of design software tools (CAD, ANSYS, etc).
  • Experience with ANSYS Workbench focusing on structural and vibration analysis.
  • Passion for additive technology and willingness to challenge current design limitations to further exploit the benefits of additive capability.
  • Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and strong program leadership and execution skills.
  • Proven self-starter and quick learner who can work in fast-paced cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead rotordynamics analysis (critical speeds, forced response, maneuvers, stability, loads, etc.) for new jet engines and rigs.
  • Collaborate with hardware owners to develop successful rotor and structure designs based on analysis results.
  • Conduct operational testing, including developing test plans, instrumentation, data acquisition, and signal processing.
  • Provide presentations and recommendations based on test results.
  • Apply knowledge of finite element analysis using ANSYS Workbench and associated tools, including static, modal, and forced response (HCF) analysis.
  • Execute the design, analysis, and evaluation of assigned projects adhering to engineering principles, industry standards, business processes, and product requirements.
  • Lead design reviews and coordinate with other disciplines such as controls, additive manufacturing, bearings, materials, and system analysis.
  • Provide timely communication on significant issues or developments.
  • Participate in research and development of technologies and methodologies related to additive design, advising on improvements to product design through additive manufacturing.
  • Scale design capability to support additional projects and potentially lead a team in the future.
  • Use engineering judgment to balance complex and conflicting program requirements and propose solutions to optimize overall product performance.
  • Ensure proper documentation of technical data generated consistent with engineering best practices.
