Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a talented Principal Quality Engineer to help support our Columbia Dreadnaught Launcher Program at our Sunnyvale, CA facility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related STEM field and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a quality assurance, mission assurance, design, or manufacturing; Master’s degree and 3 or more years of relevant experience).
  • Experience engaging with manufacturing and QC personnel on the shop floor to provide solutions.
  • Experience with QMS (ISO 9001, AS9100, etc.).
  • Experience working in a mechanical and/or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in root cause analysis and corrective action.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance.
  • US Citizenship required

Nice To Haves

  • Mechanical Inspection experience.
  • Certified in Lean and Six-Sigma methodologies.
  • Certified auditor.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt
  • AS9102 First Article Inspections (FAI)
  • Active Secret Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, modify, apply, and maintain quality evaluation and control systems and protocols for processing materials into partially finished or finished materials product.
  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place.
  • Introduction to Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA), HQMS and Continuous Improvement activities.
  • Ensure that performance and quality products conform to established company and regulatory standards.
  • Identify and review product non-conformances
  • Use data to make Quality decisions
  • Support Functional/ Physical Process Assessments.
  • Basic blueprint reading
  • Interpretation of drawings and MIL-STDs
  • Dispositioning and handling of HW defects and non-conformances.
  • Participate in the resolution of any quality requirements non-conformance, Standard Repairs or exceptions (MRB, DTO, etc.).
  • Devise and implement methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment.
  • Design and analyze inspection and testing processes, mechanisms and equipment; conducting quality assurance tests; and performing statistical analysis to assess the cost of and determine the responsibility for, products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications.
  • Audit quality systems for deficiency identification and correction.
  • Initiate Corrective Action Plans and work with suppliers, manufacturing, and engineering personnel to identify the root cause and ensure robust corrective actions are implemented.
  • Ensure that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards, and that documentation is compliant with requirements. Work from engineering drawings, diagrams, customer specifications, inspection instructions, and checklists to ensure items meet required specifications and quality standards
  • Lead and implement Continuous Improvements to reduce defect count on manufacturing floor.
  • May specialize in the areas of design, incoming material, production control, product evaluation and reliability, inventory control and/or research and development as they apply to product or process quality.
  • May be certified in lean and six-sigma quality engineering methodologies.
