About The Position

Ayar Labs is seeking a strategic and technical Principal Product Quality Engineer to ensure world-class products and quality levels. As a fabless semiconductor and module developer, the company depends on coordination among internal design and manufacturing teams, external partners, and quality functions. This role owns product quality for one or more products, drives quality into products from the beginning of the design process, and manages quality systems and issues across the product lifecycle. The engineer defines and maintains Design FMEAs, supports Process FMEAs, influences supplier and manufacturing quality criteria, and participates in design reviews and program gates. The role also develops quality metrics and works with manufacturing partners to monitor process performance and identify trends proactively. The position is on-site in San Jose.

Requirements

10 to 12 years of experience in Quality, Engineering, and/or Operations in the semiconductor and/or electronics industries; software and pharmaceutical experience does not qualify.
Deep experience managing and auditing an established QMS, such as ISO 9001 and/or IATF 16949.
Deep experience managing quality through external foundries, OSATs, and/or Tier 1 contract manufacturers.
Strong understanding of semiconductor manufacturing and/or advanced packaging.
Familiarity with photonics, transceivers, or laser module assembly (ELSFP).
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Sciences, Physics, or a related technical discipline.

Nice To Haves

Experience with Quality Management Software such as Arena, Propel, or ETQ is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

Own quality for one or more products within an Ayar Labs product family.
Collaborate with design, test, firmware, operations, manufacturing, and engineering teams to achieve world-class product quality and PPM levels.
Use existing quality systems and develop new ones to identify and minimize risk before issues occur; address issues promptly when they arise.
Drive design and manufacturing teams to build quality into products from the beginning.
Ensure products meet Ayar Labs and ISO 9001 quality standards across functions including document control, revision control, Material Review Board, Change Action Board, calibration, and product traceability.
Lead, track, and resolve product quality issues.
Facilitate meetings across locations and disciplines to identify root causes and preventive actions.
Define and facilitate Design FMEAs across disciplines for assigned products and own each Design FMEA throughout the product lifetime.
Support Process FMEAs with Manufacturing Quality Engineering.
Define and influence supplier and manufacturing quality criteria to meet quality goals.
Work with Engineering to review and approve new designs and suppliers.
Participate in, influence, and lead teams to ensure design quality meets world-class standards.
Attend status meetings, program reviews, gate reviews, and design review meetings.
Review and approve gates and ECOs/DCOs.
Coordinate BOM entries with Engineering, Supply Chain, and Operations.
Develop key metrics to predict quality and monitor progress toward goals.
Establish real-time data connections with manufacturing partners and monitor Statistical Process Control and First Pass Yield to identify trends before they become field issues.
