About The Position

The role of Principal Engineer for Nuclear Steam Turbine Controls for the Services Value Stream supporting the Software and Controls Solutions business is key to supporting the expanding growth in demand for nuclear power generation. This includes work to support the control systems for the GE Vernova Hitachi Small Modular Reactor (SMR) and the installed base of operating nuclear power generation facilities working to extend the lifecycle of their plants to support the increasing electrical power demands around the world.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Controls Engineering
  • Minimum of 15 years of professional experience with steam turbine controls
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience working in nuclear power generation sector
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
  • Willing to work out of the Longmont, Colorado factory location or travel there up to 20% per year to support factory testing, engineering mentoring, and business meetings.
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.

Responsibilities

  • Use strong experience supporting the nuclear and/or fossil steam turbine controls market space to provide technical direction, oversight, and mentoring to less experienced controls engineers.
  • Support order execution for nuclear power generation customers by working directly with assigned project engineers to ensure all customer requirements are met including any regulatory or technical standards.
  • As a controlled title holder, provide technical review and approval during design reviews supporting new product introduction (NPI) or customer order execution.
  • The key objective is to identify and mitigate technical risks that threaten operational safety, controls reliability, program schedules, or business objectives.
  • Work independently in support of, as well as guiding teams in the development of, new and existing products for nuclear power generation control systems by analyzing customer and regulatory system requirements and ensuring traceability to demonstrated compliance to those requirements.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams to develop and maintain structured controls products that work seamlessly as a complete system including nuclear steam turbine controls application software libraries, functional human machine interface (HMI) screens, control panel hardware configurations including power distribution, input/output devices, and wiring connections, cyber security solutions, interface to generator controls and protection, and mechanical controls system interfaces for the steam turbine.
  • Support the commercial business team to review customer conforming bid specifications and in developing technical scope of supply using structured products whenever possible and conceiving of new solutions when necessary to meet customer requirements.
  • Develop new and maintain existing nuclear steam turbine controls process documentation supporting the quality management system in compliance with customer requirements and industry standards. Examples include Software Requirements Specifications (SRS), Verification and Validation (V&V) Test Plans, Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM), Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FMEA), and Missile Probability Analyses.
  • Reinforce and ensure compliance to nuclear specific and applicable non-nuclear technical regulations and standards with the engineering team. Examples include Electro-Magnetic Compatibility (EMC), Electrical & Machinery Safety, and seismic analysis.
  • Provide technical direction and oversight to responsible controls engineers to perform customer witness test planning and execution in the factory test environment. This includes proper documentation of test results and correction of any discrepancies detected during system testing.
  • Regular interaction with nuclear power generation industry customers to understand their needs and to provide technical details of our business solutions.
  • Perform analytical work to define and meet/exceed customer requirements.
  • Effectively communicate results by preparing written reports and making presentations describing analyses performed, solutions developed, and value obtained.
