About The Position

As a Principal Engineer – Cloud Focus, you will play a critical role in defining and building ADT’s future cloud platform, with a strong emphasis on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). You’ll act as a hands-on technical leader, shaping cloud architecture, enabling scalability and reliability, and supporting the integration of AI-enabled capabilities across our growing product ecosystem. This role blends deep cloud expertise, platform-level thinking, and practical, hands-on delivery. You will influence strategy while staying close to the code, working across teams to ensure ADT’s cloud foundations are modern, secure, resilient, and ready to support AI-driven products at scale.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant experience in cloud-first architectures
  • Bachelor degree in a related field
  • Strong hands-on expertise with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) in production environments
  • Proven experience designing and operating large-scale, distributed, cloud-native systems
  • Experience with containerized platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Strong background in backend or platform engineering (e.g., Java, Node, or similar modern stacks)
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform) and modern CI/CD practices
  • Experience with cloud and on-prem network connections
  • Solid understanding of system reliability, security, observability, and cost management
  • Ability to translate business and product needs into robust technical solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence and mentor senior engineers
  • Comfort operating in ambiguous problem spaces while providing clarity and direction

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience supporting or enabling AI/ML workloads in cloud environments
  • Familiarity with AI-adjacent cloud patterns such as: Scalable data pipelines, Model hosting and inference infrastructure, Integration of AI services into distributed systems
  • Experience collaborating closely with AI/ML engineers to bring AI-enabled features into production
  • Enthusiasm for applying AI to improve both product capabilities and engineering workflows
  • Deep expertise in GCP managed services (compute, networking, data, AI/ML, or platform services)
  • Experience building platform capabilities used by multiple product teams
  • Exposure to security, compliance, or regulated environments
  • Strong architectural judgment paired with a bias toward practical delivery
  • Passion for mentoring and raising the technical bar across teams
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture, design, and evolution of ADT’s future cloud environment with a primary focus on GCP
  • Design and build highly scalable and secure platforms to support mission-critical products and services
  • Serve as a hands-on technical leader, contributing production-quality code while guiding architectural decisions
  • Partner with AI and product engineering teams to enable and integrate AI-powered capabilities into cloud-based systems
  • Define and promote cloud standards, best practices, and reference architectures across teams
  • Drive adoption of modern cloud patterns including containerization, managed services, event-driven architectures, and infrastructure as code
  • Collaborate with IT, SRE, and Security teams to ensure reliability, observability, cost efficiency, and compliance
  • Influence technical direction across multiple teams through design reviews, technical proposals, and mentorship
  • Identify and reduce technical debt while improving platform agility and long-term maintainability
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to product, engineering leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders
