This role is for a Principal Electrical Engineer who will serve as a technical expert within the Power Electronics Department. The department is responsible for designing, testing, and maintaining power electronics products and systems specifically for Johnson Controls’ chiller applications. The position involves determining best techniques, creating compliance procedures, defining design specifications, and analyzing product design requirements to recommend solutions. It also includes preparing documentation, participating in preliminary design and systems architecture, conducting cost impact analysis, and performing feasibility studies for new applications or modifications. The Principal Electrical Engineer will collaborate with other engineers, designers, and technicians, forecast work activities, define processes, and act as a technical lead for troubleshooting field and factory issues. Travel to customers, factories, vendors, and conferences is also required.

Requirements

  • Master degree on Electrical Engineering with specialization on Power Electronics
  • Minimum 7+ years of industry experience in the field of power electronics or electrical engineering
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, schedule-driven, team-oriented environment
  • Ability to travel 10% of their time domestic or international

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. degree with focus in Power Electronics
  • Strong experience on power electronics controls
  • Strong experience on IGBT based inverters
  • Strong experience on advanced tools such as Matlab/Simulink, OPAL-RT, Saber

Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical expert within Power Electronics Department that is responsible to design, test, and maintain power electronics products and systems for Johnson Controls’ chiller applications.
  • Determine the best techniques, procedures and/or theories as they apply to the development of power electronics products and systems.
  • Create compliance procedures for the development of electrical/electronic circuitry designs.
  • Define and interpret design specifications; design electrical/electronic circuitry to meet specified requirements; and analyzes product design requirements and recommend solutions.
  • Prepare and coordinates the release of documentation to support component design and manufacturing.
  • Participate in all aspects of preliminary design and systems architecture, and conducts analysis of the cost impacts of proposed modifications, upgrades, and new implementations of application software.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and systems analysis for new applications or major modifications of existing systems.
  • Work with other engineers, designers, and technicians on specific work assignments.
  • Forecast and schedule work activities, and defines processes for repetitive tasks.
  • Act as the technical lead for troubleshooting field and factory issues on the range of power electronics products and systems on Johnson Controls’ chillers.
  • Travel to visit customers, Johnson Controls’ factories, vendors, and/or professional conferences as business needs.
  • Comply with Johnson Controls’ Code of Ethics and policies.
