About The Position

The Principal DevOps Engineer is a senior-level individual contributor who architects and implements scalable, secure, and resilient infrastructure solutions across multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP). This role leads technical execution of DevOps best practices, including automation, CI/CD pipeline development, observability, and infrastructure as code. The Principal Engineer partners closely with engineering teams, architecture, and stakeholders to define technical requirements and deliver high-impact solutions. They also mentor peers and promote a DevOps culture focused on reliability, performance, and developer efficiency.

Requirements

  • BA/BS Degree (4-year) in a related field
  • 6-8 years of related work experience
  • Experience designing and configuring Azure cloud services, including AKS, Azure Functions, Logic Apps, ACR, Front Door, Application Insights, Key Vault, Load Balancers, VNets, Traffic Manager, and Event Hub.
  • Experience automating deployments for microservices-based platforms using CI/CD and infrastructure as code.
  • Experience collaborating on projects that utilize modern JavaScript frameworks such as React, Angular, Vue.js, or Ember.js.
  • Experience configuring infrastructure and application alerts, alarms, and notifications
  • Experience solving application monitoring challenges using continuous synthetic transactions
  • Comfortable using Git version control
  • Experience working in cloud-based DevOps environments with cross-functional or globally distributed teams.
  • Eagerness to work in a highly collaborative team environment
  • Understanding of DevOps fundamentals such as security, scalability, and reliability
  • Ability to design and create cloud-based software defined networking
  • Familiarity with fault tolerant infrastructure designs including the use of regions and availability zones
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes setup, configuration, and deployment
  • Experience with writing infrastructure as code (IaC) (Terraform, Azure ARM, CloudFormation, Pulumi)
  • Proficiency in a scripting language such as Bash or PowerShell
  • Experience in at least one programming language (JavaScript, Ruby, Python, PHP, C#)
  • Experience with a unified, real-time monitoring and analytics platform, such as Azure Log Analytics, Google StackDriver / Operations Suite, New Relic, Splunk or Datadog
  • Understanding of Microsoft SQL or MySQL
  • Experience using a CI/CD tool like CircleCI, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or AWS CodePipeline
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments, including sprint planning and backlog refinement.
  • Great verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills
  • Results driven with reliable follow through
  • Experience contributing to operational reporting, including system health, performance metrics, and KPI

Responsibilities

  • Deploy microservices using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) within CI/CD pipelines by scripting, testing, and creating backups to support independent development, scalable deployment, and reliable system configuration.
  • Train, mentor, and assist other team members in DevOps and Platform Engineering best practices, while actively contributing to the refinement of tickets, definition of technical requirements, and identification of effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with the team to define measurable and meaningful KPIs for DevOps Engineers to strive toward and follow.
  • Manage automated build processes using software development platforms (Azure DevOps, GitHub, Jenkins, and AWS CodeBuild) to enable quick, efficient, correct, and flexible deployments.
  • Automate, deploy, and test by leveraging webhooks and status checks from software development platforms (Azure, GCP, AWS CodeDeploy, AWS CodePipeline, GitHub, Jira, and Postman).
  • Configure and create automated real-time application monitoring solutions that include database log reviews, key performance indicators of system performance, and other alerts to maintain availability and security of database systems.
  • Champion ChatOps workflows using real-time communication tools (like Slack), and perform system administration tasks including changes to user permissions, system configurations, and tuning of applications and processes in partnership with the development team.
  • Contribute to monthly reporting on system health, performance metrics, and operational improvements to ensure transparency and continuous optimization.
