Requirements

Bachelor's degree in clinical/medical laboratory science (CLS/MLS), medical technology (MT), chemistry, biological science from an accredited institution, or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus a certificate in MLS.
Six years of relevant laboratory experience; OR a Master's degree in chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science or medical technology and four years of relevant laboratory experience; OR a Doctoral degree in chemistry or a biological science and two years of relevant laboratory experience.
A HEW certificate may be substituted for the specified degree.
Other clinical laboratory specialty certificates will be reviewed and approved on a case-by-case basis.
Demonstrated ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative, organization, and efficiency while exercising sound judgment, decision-making, and project management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
Proven ability to interpret and apply scientific literature, reference materials, and existing methodologies to develop and implement innovative laboratory methods, processes, or products.
Adaptable and flexible in managing multiple projects involving diverse technologies, platforms, and scientific disciplines.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and scientific expertise with comprehensive knowledge of laboratory procedures and best practices.
Extensive experience with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies, including assay development, optimization, validation, and data interpretation.
ASCP or other certification pertinent to the laboratory field may be required depending on the laboratory specialty and prevailing regulatory requirements.
Employees obtaining CT certification(s) after January 1, 2004 will be required to demonstrate evidence of ongoing maintenance of certification.
Employees obtaining SCT certification(s) after January 1, 2006 will be required to demonstrate evidence of ongoing maintenance of certification.

Nice To Haves

Master's degree or Doctoral (PhD) degree from an accredited institution in chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science or medical technology.
Test development/innovation leader for multiple complex cross-area projects.

Responsibilities

Serve as a division/departmental test development/innovation platform leader.
Develop, innovate, evaluate, and implement novel tests, methodologies, technologies, or products for the laboratory under scientific guidance.
Provide development/innovation support for multiple projects across the division/department.
Improve existing methods or implement novel technology of proven validity.
Participate on cross-departmental teams, including Bioinformatics and IT, to evaluate laboratory equipment, instrumentation, procedures, and computer software/hardware.
Act as a mentor for test development/innovation staff.
