About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a Principal Decommissioning Product Manager to provide critical leadership for the decommissioning and data retention portfolio. This role involves driving the strategy, coordination, and execution of a complex portfolio of system retirements. The Product Manager will lead a team of application analysis and product managers, overseeing the development, execution, and monitoring of product roadmaps to ensure they deliver necessary capabilities to customers. A key aspect of this role is facilitating the governance process to ensure compliance with institutional policies for application decommissioning and data retention. VUMC IT provides hardware, software, and service solutions for the entire Medical Center, supporting over 40,000 workstations. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Advanced Product Knowledge: Demonstrates high levels of product knowledge, often relied upon by others, and plays a lead role in product-related projects. Has some experience in developing/supporting applications specific to the product.
  • Advanced Project Coordination: Manages interdependencies among multiple related and unrelated projects, develops and documents project policies and procedures, and manages the overall coordination, status reporting, and stability of major project efforts.
  • Advanced Product Vendor Management: Develops and monitors vendor performance, ensures clarity, accountability, communication, and cooperation, leads the formation of teams to develop technical specifications, and works with contracts spanning various departments.
  • Advanced Emerging Technologies: Demonstrates high levels of knowledge in new and emerging technologies, contributes to strategic planning, evaluates and tests new products, and takes a lead role in critical situations.
  • Advanced IT Portfolio Management: Demonstrates the uppermost levels of expertise in applying IT Portfolio Management, is responsible for planning major portfolio additions and determining system retirement, and contributes to the development of IT Portfolio Management best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure decommissioning and data retention efforts are timely, compliant, and aligned with business, regulatory, and operational needs.
  • Manage dependencies across projects, vendors, and stakeholders for effective application decommissioning and data retention efforts.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce risk, cost, and technical debt through technology evaluation and portfolio rationalization.
  • Deliver consistent execution and strengthen portfolio and lifecycle management practices.
  • Translate decommission/data retention needs into projects on a project roadmap.
  • Lead team of application analysis and product managers for development, execution and monitoring of product roadmaps.
  • Ensure products deliver capabilities needed by customers.
  • Facilitate governance process to ensure compliance with institutional policies for application decommissioning and data retention.
