Principal Data Security Integration Engineer

VerizonTemple Terrace, FL

About The Position

As a Principal Engineer, you will be a key individual contributor within our organization's Data Engineering Services team. You will be a hands-on engineer and subject matter expert, responsible for architecting, building, and maintaining the data pipelines, ingress/egress integrations, and downstream data feeds that are critical to enterprise identity and workforce data operations. Your influence will extend within your immediate team as you set technical standards, ensure data integrity, and mentor emerging talent. You will also be expected to work fluently with AI-assisted engineering tools such as Claude, applying them as a core part of how you design pipelines, reason through schema and indexing tradeoffs, debug complex stored procedures, and document integration architecture, not as an occasional convenience, but as a working practice you bring to daily data engineering activities. You will own the end-to-end data lifecycle within the enterprise data platform; from source feed onboarding through downstream delivery with business stakeholders and downstream systems relying on this data for the continued operation of enterprise identity, access management, and workforce processes. You will be a primary technical lead, partnering with leadership to align data engineering initiatives with overarching business goals. Your expertise will be instrumental in expanding feed coverage, hardening automation around file delivery and processing, and ensuring operational excellence across all integration points. Your role is not just to maintain, but to modernize and elevate the reliability and scalability of our data platform, including how effectively AI-assisted tooling is woven into the team's day-to-day engineering and problem-solving. This role offers a unique opportunity to be the engineering anchor for a critical enterprise data platform, shaping the reliability and growth of data repository operations that power workforce identity and access management across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of job-related work experience, military experience, or specialized training or education (non-collegiate).
  • Experience administering and developing against an enterprise relational database (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL), including schema design, complex stored procedures, indexing strategies, bulk load patterns, and performance optimization for large-scale data platforms.
  • Hands-on experience ingesting, validating, and managing structured data feeds, including onboarding new sources, handling schema changes, and supporting downstream consumers.
  • Experience in scripting for process automation, file transfer orchestration, and operational workflows in an enterprise environment (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash).
  • Solid software development skills with experience building applications, services, or batch processing utilities (e.g., C#, Java, Python).
  • Experience with REST API integration patterns, consuming and producing APIs for data exchange in the context of ETL/ELT or data ingestion workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate coding, troubleshooting, documentation, and workflow automation, applying them as force multipliers across the full data integration development lifecycle.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting downstream data consumers, understanding SLA requirements, managing schema contracts, and collaborating with consuming application teams on data changes, particularly around worker identity data feeds.
  • Familiarity with SSH/SCP-based file delivery patterns and enterprise file transfer tooling.
  • Direct exposure to identity, access management, or workforce data domains, e.g., integrating with or supporting systems like SailPoint (identity governance) or Workday (HR/workforce), and the sensitivity and compliance considerations that accompany them.
  • Understanding of critical identity and access management business processes, joiner/mover/leaver events, access certification, provisioning/deprovisioning, and how those processes translate into data feed requirements.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to document data flows, explain integration architecture to non-technical stakeholders, and contribute to operational runbooks.
  • Experience working within a batch-processing ecosystem that bridges multiple upstream systems into a centralized platform.
  • Hands-on experience querying LDAP/Active Directory, including user and group lookups, attribute retrieval, and building automation to provision, update, or synchronize directory data as part of identity or workforce data workflows.
  • Working knowledge of relational database administration, including user and permission management, index maintenance, backup and recovery strategies, job scheduling, and general server health monitoring to keep the platform performant and reliable.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the technical design and implementation of data ingress and egress pipelines into the enterprise data platform, ensuring alignment with enterprise data governance, performance, and reliability standards.
  • Administering and optimizing the relational database backing the platform, including schema design and management, complex stored procedure development, indexing strategy, query performance tuning, and capacity planning for high-volume batch workloads.
  • Onboarding, configuring, and maintaining inbound data feeds from diverse source systems, including identity and access management platforms (e.g., SailPoint) and HR/workforce systems (e.g., Workday), defining intake formats, schemas, validation rules, and error-handling strategies.
  • Designing, building, and maintaining applications and services that drive ingestion workflows, batch processing, and integration with upstream data producers.
  • Developing and maintaining API integrations to support real-time and scheduled data exchange between the platform and external systems.
  • Authoring and maintaining automation scripts for file transfer, scheduling, process orchestration, and operational monitoring across the feed landscape.
  • Supporting and evolving downstream worker identity data feeds, partnering with consuming application teams to ensure timely, accurate, and schema-compliant delivery of identity and access data.
  • Defining and enforcing coding standards, data quality controls, and operational runbooks across all platform integration components.
  • Serving as a key technical partner to senior leadership and stakeholders, representing the data engineering organization and providing expert guidance on feed roadmaps and integration priorities.
  • Cultivating strategic partnerships with peer engineering and data teams — including teams owning identity, access management, and workforce systems, to anticipate feed changes, resolve integration issues, and drive continuous improvement of the platform.
  • Developing a working understanding of the business processes behind the data, particularly identity lifecycle, access provisioning/deprovisioning, and workforce events so that pipelines and schemas correctly reflect what the business actually needs.
