About The Position

We are hiring a Principal Data Scientist to lead the design and development of Walmart Connect's next-generation ads incrementality measurement platform. We are looking for a scientist with rare depth in causal inference, incrementality and RCT experimentation who thrives on doing the hard technical work, not just directing it. You will own the methodology end-to-end, partner with engineering and product to carry solutions into production, and serve as the team's go-to authority on the hardest measurement problems. You will help set the bar for what rigorous, causally grounded ads measurement looks like at Walmart Connect. The team develops advanced advertising measurement solutions by leveraging innovative data science, machine learning algorithms, and experimentation techniques.

Requirements

  • PhD or Master's in Statistics, Economics, Econometrics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field — PhD strongly preferred
  • 5+ years in data science or quantitative research
  • Deep, specialized expertise in causal inference and/or incrementality-based optimization — Randomized control trials, PIE model, instrumental variables, uplift DNN, regression discontinuity and related methods
  • Strong command of experiment design at scale — power analysis, variance reduction, interference and spillover handling, and bias correction
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL for large-scale data data analysis and experience with distributed data platforms (Spark, BigQuery, or equivalent)
  • Strong statistical foundations and machine learning knowledge
  • Bachelors degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 5 years' experience in an analytics related field.
  • Masters degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 3 years' experience in an analytics related field.
  • 7 years' experience in an analytics or related field

Nice To Haves

  • ads industry experience preferred
  • Data science, machine learning, optimization models
  • PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics
  • Publications or active peer reviewer in related journals or conference
  • Successful completion of one or more assessments in Python, Spark, Scala, or R
  • Using open source frameworks (for example, scikit learn, tensorflow, torch)
  • We value candidates with a background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
  • The ideal candidate would have knowledge of accessibility best practices and join us as we continue to create accessible products and services following Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement large-scale causal inference methodologies to measure the true incremental lift of advertising across campaigns, channels, and segments
  • Establish evaluation frameworks, exit criteria, and solution readiness standards causal inference methodologies, grounding approach in hypotheses and data validations
  • Author high-quality technical design documents and whitepapers; present to senior leadership
  • Define the science roadmap for incrementality and causal measurement; prioritize the highest-leverage problems and make principled trade-offs
  • Develop event-grain incrementality models (Uplift DNN) to power ads bidding optimization decisions
  • Partner with engineers to design data pipelines and schema that meet the precision requirements of causal measurement at scale
  • Mentor senior and mid-level scientists
