About The Position

Lumen is seeking an experienced Principal Data Governance Architect to serve as the enterprise architecture authority for its governance program. The role ensures that tool assessment findings, governance standards, and domain data models align with Lumen’s enterprise architecture taxonomy and Data Architecture Review Board (DARB)-approved architecture. The architect owns the governance architecture standards layer and establishes architectural guardrails that tools must follow, rather than implementing the tools themselves. The role represents governance in major architecture decisions, migration programs, and platform strategy discussions. This is a remote opportunity open to candidates located anywhere in the U.S. The position reports to the Director, Data Governance Technology.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in enterprise data architecture with a governance-by-design orientation.
  • Experience participating in a DARB or architecture review board.
  • Expertise in Databricks Lakehouse architecture, including Medallion, Unity Catalog, and Delta Live Tables.
  • Broad platform fluency across Azure, Oracle, SAP, Salesforce, Palantir, and multi-cloud environments.
  • Strong technical writing skills, including producing architecture decision records that remain useful 12 months after the decision.

Nice To Haves

  • CUI/FedRAMP data segregation architecture experience.

Responsibilities

  • Own enterprise data architecture standards for governance, including reference architectures, Unity Catalog governance patterns, data platform governance integration models, and CUI/commercial data segregation patterns.
  • Serve as the governance team’s standing Data Architecture Review Board (DARB) representative; new data initiatives affecting governed domains must pass a governance architecture review before DARB approval.
  • Evaluate the architectural fit of new tools against Lumen’s multi-platform data estate and flag integration complexity and dependency risk in Track 1 assessments.
  • Partner with Data Engineering EA on migration architecture to embed governance by design, with checkpoints in CDW-to-Databricks and other active migration SOWs.
  • Author and maintain governance architecture decision records in SharePoint.
  • Advise the Director, Data Governance Technology on platform architectural trade-offs in vendor evaluations.

Benefits

  • A comprehensive package featuring a broad range of Health, Life, and Voluntary Lifestyle benefits.
  • Other perks that enhance physical, mental, emotional, and financial wellbeing.
  • Bonus structure may include short-term incentives, long-term incentives, and/or sales compensation.
