About The Position

The Principal Data Governance Advisor is an individual contributor responsible for advancing practical, business-owned Data Governance across Gulf States Toyota. This role partners with the Director of Data & AI Strategy and business and technology leaders to establish consistent practices that ensure critical data is trusted, clearly owned, appropriately protected, and fit for purpose. This Principal Advisor provides governance expertise, tools, and guidance to help business areas establish data ownership, improve data quality, address key issues, and strengthen how data is managed and used. The role also supports the trusted data foundation needed for reporting, analytics, automation, and AI while reducing data-related risk, duplication, manual work, and reliance on tribal knowledge. Success requires strong business acumen, facilitation, consulting, and influencing skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and lead through partnership rather than direct authority.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Req
7-9 years experience in the field or in a related area or possess an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Responsibilities

Advance GST’s Data Governance roadmap and Operating Approach: Partner with the Director of Data & AI Strategy in developing, executing and continuously improving GST’s Data Governance Roadmap and Operating Approach.
Enable Business-Owned Governance: Provide Data Governance expertise, guidance, frameworks and tools that enable business areas to establish and sustain practical governance within their operations.
Identify Critical Processes and Data: Partner with business areas to identify and prioritize critical business processes and data sets based on business value, risk and operational importance.
Establish clear ownership and accountability: Help business areas identify and clarify Business Data Owners, Data Stewards and System/Technology Owners, including practical roles, responsibilities and accountability for critical data.
Clarify source of truth, definitions and flows: Facilitate definition and documentation of authoritative data sources, critical data elements, business definitions, KPI definitions and key data flows.
Improve Data Quality and Visibility: Facilitate definition of appropriate data-quality expectations for critical data, including accuracy, completeness, timeliness and consistency, and support development of Data Quality Scorecards/Health Dashboards.
Drive issue resolution and improvement: Help establish practical processes for identifying, prioritizing, resolving and escalating significant data-quality and governance issues with clear business and technology ownership.
Support analytics, automation and AI readiness: Partner with business, Data & Analytics and Technology teams to help ensure critical data supporting reporting, analytics, automation and AI initiatives is understood, appropriately governed and fit for intended use.
Maintain catalog/glossary and standards: Support development and maintenance of GST’s data catalog/glossary in partnership with business and technology teams, including business definitions, naming conventions, critical data elements, KPI definitions and authoritative data sources.
Build strong partnerships: Develop and maintain strong partnerships with business and technology leaders to advance practical, business-owned Data Governance across GST.
