About The Position

The Principal, Data Engineer will lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced data integration and modeling solutions to support business objectives. This role requires expertise in data transformation, cloud-based infrastructure, and automation of data pipelines to ensure high-quality, scalable data assets. The position involves guiding teams on best practices, overseeing data governance, and collaborating across functions to translate complex business requirements into effective technical solutions. The role demands a strategic mindset to drive data strategy execution while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and fostering continuous improvement in data engineering processes. The People Data Platform team within Corporate Tech Services manages comprehensive people-related data, including HR, Compensation, Learning, Talent Management, and Talent Acquisition across multiple markets. The team delivers enterprise data solutions supporting various use cases such as analytics, artificial intelligence, conversational experiences, reports, and metrics. Utilizing advanced data integration, modeling, and engineering methods, the team ensures high-quality, scalable data infrastructure and pipelines. This collaborative environment emphasizes innovation and operational excellence to enable business insights and informed decision-making across the organization.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in data engineering, including data integration, transformation, and pipeline development using ETL and streaming ingestion techniques.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Spark and familiarity with cloud data platforms such as Google BigQuery and Google Cloud Dataproc.
  • Strong knowledge of data modeling methodologies, including dimensional design and entity relationship diagrams.
  • Ability to build and maintain scalable data infrastructure supporting structured and semi-structured data.
  • Expertise in evaluating data quality and implementing data governance practices aligned with regulatory requirements.
  • Proven skills in coding, testing, and troubleshooting using languages like Python, Java, or SQL.
  • Demonstrated capability to translate complex business requirements into effective data strategies and solutions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and 5 years' experience in software engineering or related field.
  • 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related field.
  • Master's degree in Computer Science and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related field.
  • 4 years' experience in data engineering, database engineering, business intelligence, or business analytics.

  • Data engineering, database engineering, business intelligence, or business analytics, ETL tools and working with large data sets in the cloud.
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field and 5 years' experience in software engineering or related field.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and evaluate data sources to ensure quality and suitability for business needs.
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and integration processes using ETL and streaming techniques.
  • Build and optimize data models across cloud platforms, including BigQuery and other data warehouses.
  • Lead code development, testing, and troubleshooting to meet technical and business requirements.
  • Establish and enforce data governance, quality standards, and documentation practices.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to align data strategies with organizational objectives.
  • Mentor team members and provide technical guidance on data engineering best practices.
