The Principal Controls System Engineer is responsible for PLC and HMI code best practices/development/maintenance, robotics and automation projects from conception to implementation, SCADA system development, Ignition based interfaces, industrial networking, and database solutions. The Principal Controls System Engineer will monitor and perform routine diagnostic checks on automated systems, troubleshoot problems, and repair issues to reduce safety risk, improve throughput, and other metrics through the use of controls and automation systems. As part of the team, the Principal Controls System Engineer will install, maintain, and replace systems throughout the production process for all control systems. Troubleshoot component parts, including motion sensors, control components, photosensors, and other vital technology. In addition to maintaining smooth operation, will operate be the subject matter expert (SME) for leadership and key decision-makers, delivering reports on current System Control capabilities and future opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science and 8 or more years of experience in an engineering, manufacturing operations, network design, SCADA system design, project management or a related work environment OR a Master's Degree and 5 or more years of experience in an engineering, manufacturing operations, network design, SCADA system design, project management or a related environment
  • Experience in a production environment, particularly as it relates to industrial control technology
  • Experience with Rockwell Studio 5000/Allen Bradley, Inductive Automation Ignition, Fanuc, Cognex, and other industrial software and brand utilization
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Nice To Haves

  • Engineering degree in Automation, Robotics, Aerospace, Electrical, or Mechanical
  • Knowledge of traditional and non-traditional manufacturing (isothermal forging, spray coating, heat treat, and ultrasonic inspection) techniques to produce disks and industrially available technologies
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles, experience with Kaizen events or experience with a continuous improvement program (CORE, 6S, etc.)
  • Experience with root cause analysis
  • Experience with SmartSheet or other data and project management tools
