About The Position

Owensmouth Continuation High School provides students in the Canoga Park community with an alternative pathway toward earning a high school diploma in a supportive, student-centered environment. Owensmouth Continuation High School serves approximately 80-100 students annually in a small school setting focused on academic achievement, credit recovery, social-emotional support, and character development. The student population is approximately 85% Latino, 5% Asian, and 5% Black/African American, and 5% Other. The school is designated as a Title I school, with approximately 100% economically disadvantaged students, 55% English Learners, and 10% Students with Disabilities. The staff at Owensmouth Continuations High School works collaboratively to ensure students are supported academically, socially, and emotionally while preparing them for graduation and postsecondary success. The school emphasizes individualized instruction, relationship-centered practices, and intervention systems designed to meet the unique needs of continuation high school students. Requirements

  • Five years of successful full-time public school certificated service
  • Three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 public school program
  • Two years of experience at a middle or senior high school grades 7 through 12
  • A valid California teaching credential requiring a Bachelor's degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential
  • Multicultural coursework
  • Master’s degree from a regionally-accredited college or university
  • District Master Plan requirements
  • Candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying.
  • In order to be placed in the eligible pool, candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in alternative education settings and personalized pathways to graduation.
  • Knowledge of State, Federal, Title I, and LAUSD policies, procedures, and regulations, including those related to continuation education and student support systems.
  • Bilingual abilities are preferred.
  • One year in a non-classroom leadership position (i.e., Temporary Adviser, Categorical Adviser (0704), Out of Classroom Assignment (0706), or Instructional Coach).
  • Teaching and/or counseling experience in a continuation, alternative, or opportunity school.

Responsibilities

  • Design and operationalize systems of support, intervention, and student engagement that promote student success and continuous improvement.
  • Utilize disaggregated data to improve academic achievement, attendance, graduation outcomes, and postsecondary readiness for all students.
  • Utilize the Teaching and Learning Framework to provide actionable feedback that strengthens standards-based instruction, teacher effectiveness, and student outcomes.
  • Implement restorative practices, the District’s Discipline Foundation Policy, and School-Wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (SWPBIS) to improve school culture, climate, safety, and belonging.
  • Plan and facilitate professional development.
  • Build collaborative partnerships with families and community organizations.
  • Support diverse student populations, including English Learners, students with disabilities, foster youth, and housing-insecure youth.
  • Monitor instruction and provide actionable feedback.
  • Plan and provide professional development to increase instructional outcomes.
  • Use data to drive change in teaching and learning.
  • Experience with development of the Master Schedule and supporting English Learner programs.
