What Your Impact Is As a Principal Consultant, Transactions, Mergers and Acquisitions, you will advise private equity and corporate clients across the full transaction lifecycle, delivering ESG- and sustainability-centered insights that inform investment theses, mitigate risk, and accelerate long-term value creation. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping deal strategies, elevating investor decision-making, and strengthening ERM’s position as the global leader in sustainability advisory services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 7–10+ years of experience in M&A advisory, management consulting, private equity, corporate strategy, or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of the M&A lifecycle and investor decision-making processes.
  • Expertise in how ESG and sustainability factors influence valuation, risk, and integration planning.
  • Proven ability to independently drive workstreams and deliver high-quality outputs.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to translate complex findings into clear, actionable insights.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills in fast-paced, transaction-driven environments.
  • Ability to travel as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree (MBA, MS, or related).
  • Direct experience advising private equity and corporate clients.
  • Background in energy, infrastructure, or other capital-intensive sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Support and, where appropriate, lead M&A advisory projects for private equity and corporate clients across sectors.
  • Conduct ESG and sustainability assessments, integrating qualitative and quantitative analyses to inform investment decisions.
  • Synthesize findings into concise, investor-ready deliverables, including reports and presentations.
  • Collaborate with ERM’s global technical experts to deliver multidisciplinary insights on every engagement.
  • Serve as a key contact for day-to-day client communication and project execution.
  • Manage project scopes, schedules, and budgets to ensure efficient, high-quality delivery.
  • Apply ERM methodologies, quality standards, and best practices across all transactional work.
  • Support proposal development, budgeting, and marketing activities for new business opportunities.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge sharing, practice development, and enhancement of advisory tools.
  • Stay current on emerging ESG, sustainability, and M&A trends and represent ERM at industry events.
