About The Position

Toboggan Labs is a boutique consultancy building at the intersection of AI and healthcare. We solve challenging human problems by applying cutting-edge technology and domain understanding. This is a director-level position with both external, client-facing, and internal responsibilities. In this role, you will be the most senior technical leader for our overall AI and data science practice, and set and represent the company’s technical vision as pertains to AI. You will spend the majority of your time working with clients, whether part of a team or independently. You will also spend a significant portion of your time participating in sales cycles and representing the company at events (conferences, etc). Note that while we specialize in healthcare and regulated industries, not all our projects are in these fields, so you may work across different domains from time to time.

Requirements

• Proven track record of technical leadership.
• Broad experience in data science and AI, across multiple different subfields (e.g. from NLP to computer vision).
• Strong sense of the economics and business value of AI solutions.
• Academic background in AI or a related field.
• 8+ years of overall experience as a technology professional, ideally across different types of roles (e.g. research, applied research, product).
• Exceptional leadership and communication skills.
• Strong French language presentation, technical and interpersonal skills and the ability to work comfortably with American clients.
• Experience with Python and cloud platforms.
• Solid understanding of machine learning and deep learning algorithms, particularly generative AI models.
• Experience designing and deploying machine learning pipelines using cloud technologies.
• Good knowledge of distributed computing environments and big data technologies.
• Proficiency in software development best practices and version control systems (e.g. Git).
• Master's degree.
• Client-facing roles, including consulting.

Nice To Haves

• Exposure to healthcare (clinical operations, medical devices, pharma, etc.).
• Interest in helping generalists learn about AI and an affinity for adjacent domains — namely design and engineering.

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical lead and architect on client project teams, working closely with clients, project managers, product designers, software developers, and generally interdisciplinary teams — in these engagements, you will be expected to be hands-on.
• Perform solo hands-on work, such as doing advisory research for clients, creating proofs-of-concept, and occasionally contributing production-ready code to client and internal projects.
• Work with the sales and business development team to grow the business by leading technical discussions in sales cycles, contributing to marketing materials, and attending events.
• Work with business development and marketing to articulate the company’s vision and achievements as pertains to AI and data science; contribute to written materials, participate in events, and otherwise represent the company.
• Mentor senior technical team members and provide guidance to the AI practice guild.
• Lead internal working groups on AI and data science practices and standards to be deployed across projects; collaborate with other senior data scientists and AI engineers to ensure the quality of project delivery.
• Collaborate with software development and design leadership to identify opportunities for AI teams to create additional leverage, e.g. via internal projects and new services.
