About The Position

PUBG Madison is developing an exciting new IP that aims to push the shooter genre forward. Our state-of-the art studio and brand-new motion capture studio are in the heart of Madison, WI. PUBG Madison has been named a Top Workplace in 2025 and 2026 for our positive, strong company culture. This role is open to remote work for those located in the United States. This role will work primarily on Pacific Time Zone (PST) business hours and requires regular collaboration with Korean-speaking teams; fluency in both English and Korean is required. The ideal candidate is passionate about achieving a high-quality bar, able to incorporate feedback to improve their output and can elevate others' work by providing constructive feedback. They will define artistic direction and drive results through collaboration, understanding concept artwork not as standalone images but as part of the game experience. The role requires the ability to rapidly visualize ideas and explore a wide range of possibilities, possessing technical expertise yet remaining humble and open-minded to new ideas. The candidate will also be able to create systems and quality standards for a team of artists.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in game development or equivalent relevant experience, with at least 1 shipped game.
  • Portfolio showcasing photorealistic, high-quality character or environment concept art.
  • Professional fluency in English and Korean.
  • Strong visual design capabilities across characters, environments, and other domains.
  • Deep understanding of form, structure, color, and lighting.
  • Ability to produce work ranging from rapid ideation sketches to highly polished concept pieces.
  • Understanding of the 3D production pipeline.
  • Experience leading a team or mentoring artists.
  • Experience communicating clearly and solving problems in a collaborative environment.
  • Experience owning environment art quality and direction and meeting deliverables on a past project.
  • Ability to self-manage, prioritize tasks, and deliver under deadlines.
  • Ability to work during Pacific Time zone business hours (10am-4pm) with regular ability to meet in the evenings for international collaboration.
  • Ability to travel internationally 1-3 times a year for business purposes.

Responsibilities

  • Define the project's visual direction and establish and maintain concept art quality standards.
  • Lead the overall visual development of characters, environments, props, etc., and give shape to the art direction.
  • Explore visual directions from the early ideation stage and establish the project's visual language.
  • Collaborate with Art Directors, Design, and 3D teams to ensure concepts are realized in the final in-game output.
  • Review work from team members and outsource artists and provide clear feedback.
  • Build and maintain style guides and visual references.
  • Quickly present alternatives when project direction shifts and reestablish the visual direction.
  • Define the project's overall visual language and design and maintain the standards that align deliverables toward a cohesive direction.
