About The Position

This position is part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) and offers career progression opportunities and salary incentives, as funding permits, based on performance, qualifications, and experience. The Principal Automation Analyst will assess the Department of Utilities’ information needs and recommend improvements. They will design, support, and maintain relational database solutions within a Microsoft SQL Server environment and vendor-supported applications, addressing essential department business functions and coordinating with vendors on enhancements or troubleshooting. This role supports the department’s use of the County’s Enterprise Land Management system and related systems connected to Utilities’ work in Community Development. Responsibilities include extracting, analyzing, and presenting data; developing and testing SQL queries, stored procedures, and views. The analyst will assist with digital preservation of electronic records and provide Help Desk oversight when needed. They will create and update technical documentation for applications, databases, and systems, and develop and modify reports. Troubleshooting and maintaining audio-visual equipment and related software is also required. This position provides guidance to the systems team and serves as team lead when the automation coordinator is absent. The analyst will train and mentor analysts, and assist with implementing best practices for the department’s database environment, including maintenance, operational requirements, disaster recovery, and security. Evaluating alternative solutions to meet user needs and training department staff on computer systems and software are key duties. Other related duties will be performed as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, business administration, or a related field.
  • Three to five years of experience implementing and supporting business information systems is required.
  • Must be able to analyze complex business problems to identify automation solutions.
  • Must be able to manage large system projects.
  • Must be able to maintain software systems.
  • Must be able to perform network and server administration.
  • Must be able to develop documentation and training materials.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot hardware and software issues.
  • Must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Must build strong working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Pre-employment drug testing, an FBI criminal background check, and verification of education/degree are required.
  • Must maintain personal mobile technology as a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of network and server administration is preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
  • Applicants should have strong knowledge of microcomputer technology, related software, and office automation principles.
