About The Position

Redesign Health is seeking an ambitious, self-initiated, product-minded Principal Applied AI Engineer to build agentic workflows that power the firm's critical decisions, including founder selection, concept pursuit, hiring, investor relations, and healthcare partner support. This role involves transforming complex business workflows into scalable, self-learning systems that enhance the firm's impact. The engineer will operate with founder-level ownership and investor-level judgment, staying current with frontier AI research and continuously refining their skills. This is a high-leverage position within a global team of experienced professionals, offering the opportunity to manage additional engineers as needed. The role is based in New York, San Francisco, or Bengaluru, with a hybrid work schedule.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in a senior technical role at a major venture-backed startup, frontier AI lab, or investment firm.
  • Expertise in Python and/or TypeScript, with experience writing and reviewing millions of lines of code.
  • Proficiency with modern agent frameworks (e.g., Lang / Deep Agents, Anthropic Agent SDK) and experience shipping production systems on them.
  • Experience building or modifying agent harnesses, including custom tools, agentic CLIs, MCP servers, durable/sandboxed execution, observability, and self-learning loops.
  • Experience building stateful, long-horizon agentic systems beyond basic RAG, including understanding of evals, context engineering, and failure modes with real business users.
  • Demonstrated reinvention of personal workflow around AI, including sophisticated systems on top of coding agents and minimal hand-coding in over a year.
  • Evidence of superlative peer-relative performance, such as selection into high-talent environments, distinguishing oneself within them, earning broad scope or trusted ownership, rapid progression, or work that changed a team's, product's, company's, or field's trajectory.
  • A passion for technology combined with deep meaning derived from another pursuit (creative, athletic, family business, service).

Nice To Haves

  • Founding a company and building a product from 0-1.
  • Meaningful time spent inside a VC or similar investment firm.
  • Pre-LLM background in machine learning, knowledge graphs, semantic search.
  • Experience building CRM-like intelligence products (e.g., enterprise RevOps or recruiting software).

Responsibilities

  • Design and ship AI systems to redefine healthcare investing as a technical discipline, unlocking insights from healthtech venture knowledge.
  • Embed with investment, talent, and global development teams to address challenges in deep research, alternative people/organizational data, and human-agent interaction.
  • Elevate the technical sophistication of the firm and its offerings to founders, portfolio companies, and healthcare partners.
  • Build durable, long-horizon agents that combine human judgment with context engineering and self-improving feedback loops.
  • Invent new AI applications and potentially publish, open-source, and share learnings.
  • Raise the technical bar across the company by teaching the organization about AI capabilities, contributing reusable patterns to core systems, and guiding teammates and portfolio companies in building AI-native solutions.
  • Source, assess, inspire, and close exceptional founders, supporting them in building transformative health technology companies.
  • Create global patient impact through the development of these companies.
