About The Position

This position, with little to no supervision, is responsible for developing/implementing program development management objectives that meet the needs of the business. Directs the research, analysis and communication of results of other team members and oversees the coordination of those efforts to attain business objectives. More specifically, this position develops/produces multiple transactional/variance reports and manages Avangrid-wide reporting requirements associated with various electric market activities. This position also prepares UI related electric commodity supply budgets by collecting actual data throughout the year to update budgets and prepare variance reports. Conduct in-depth analysis of variance reports to ensure accurate results. This position is responsible for leading the UI’s Wholesale Power Contracts Group in standard service energy procurements to supply power to UI customers, and to develop and administer programs for contracts with zero-emission and renewable energy generation assets. The position allows for significant interactions with customers and contract counterparties relative to the execution and administration of wholesale power and renewable power/clean energy contracts. Assists in the administration of policies and procedures established for required functions and supports the examination, interpretation and development of materials and tools to efficiently complete required tasks. Finally, this position will deliver presentations of results to leadership and others internal/external stakeholders in a clear and effective manner. Represents the UI’s position to external audiences, including regulatory and industry entities. Provides direction and mentoring to support other analyst, if applicable.

Requirements

  • Minimally an associate’s degree from an accredited college/university in a related analytic discipline, including but not limited to, Accounting, Finance, Business, Environmental, Energy, or the equivalent with a minimum of 10 years relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience includes one or more of the following areas: energy (electric/gas) procurement, wholesale energy trading/marketing, energy supply planning, renewable energy, NEISO markets, and regulatory planning/strategy.
  • Similar experience with corporate purchasing and contract management, energy accounting and/or experience with SAP functions related to purchasing, supply management and accounting may be partially substituted for experience with energy markets and contracts.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office suite experience including MS Excel and Access.
  • Proficiency with complex spreadsheet analysis.
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform detailed data verification efficiently and accurately.
  • Strong business and departmental focus.

Responsibilities

  • Independently assesses/develops/produces multiple transactional/variance reports and manages/tracks programs associated with various market/hedging activities and identifies opportunities to reduce costs and risks to UI’s customers.
  • Leading the process to select and negotiate contracts with bidders for wholesale power and renewable/clean energy procurement processes, including those which may be associated with the Connecticut Low and Zero Emission Renewable Energy Credit Program, Shared Clean Energy Facility Program, and Renewable Energy Solutions Programs, or other long term clean energy procurements, and Standard Service/Last Resort Service procurements.
  • Solves complex problems and performs analytics that responds to inquiries related to pricing, supply, demand, credit risk and the interaction between various markets.
  • Anticipates customer and stakeholder needs; assesses requirements and identifies new solutions.
  • Communicates difficult concepts related to renewable energy/wholesale energy/hedging activities to internal and external parties.
  • Develops reports and presentations for various internal and external parties, including UI senior management.
  • May be required to represent AVANGRID orally or in writing to regulatory, public and industry focused entities, including the New England Independent System Operator, the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) and the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP).
  • Resolves complex problems in non-standard situations and develops creative solutions.
  • Reviews and analyzes Renewable Energy Purchase Agreements and reconciles complex pricing and accounting to ensure appropriate reporting.
  • Plans and manages the logistics of Budgeting activities and ensures appropriate accounting and budgeting estimates are prepared and updated as necessary.
  • Prepares reports and regulatory filings.
  • Support the development and filing of the Avangrid Triennial Market Based Rates filing, FERC Electric Quarterly Reports and FERC Change in Status Reporting.
  • Administer each Renewable Energy Certificate account and develop plans to ensure compliance.
  • Works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve Connecticut’s statutory clean energy goals, including assisting with Connecticut State’s Clean Energy Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) implementation plans and ensuring compliance with all regulatory RPS obligations.
