Principal AI Development Engineer

Broadcom•San Jose, CA

About The Position

Broadcom’s GTO team is seeking a Principal AI Development Engineer to lead the company’s AI transformation and architect agentic AI solutions across its global hardware and software divisions. This Level 5 role combines Generative AI—including agents, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and vectorization—with high-scale fullstack development. The Principal Engineer is the technical authority for end-to-end delivery of agentic systems connecting Broadcom’s IT infrastructure with its design engineering business units. The role leads high-impact AI initiatives from conception through global production, serves as the technical liaison between GTO and business units, and defines the long-term roadmap for AI orchestration. It also sets standards for combining production-grade fullstack development with AI, mentors senior staff, and partners with infrastructure teams on deploying models and vector databases in Kubernetes environments. The position requires communicating technical roadmaps and project status to engineering teams and executive stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 12 years of software engineering experience, with a proven record of leading and delivering complex, large-scale projects.
  • Expert-level experience building agentic workflows, RAG architectures, and complex orchestration, such as LangGraph or CrewAI.
  • Deep hands-on experience in frontend and backend development, with mastery of Python and modern enterprise-grade languages.
  • Expert knowledge of vector databases such as Pinecone, Weaviate, or Milvus, and programming principles for scaling them.
  • High proficiency in Kubernetes, Docker, and modern CI/CD patterns for production-ready AI agents.
  • Expertise in GitHub, Test-Driven Development (TDD), and automated testing tailored for AI outputs.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s or PhD degree.
  • Experience running cross-departmental projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience managing AI-driven automation for a mix of software and hardware assets.
  • Ability to conduct peer evaluations and formal design reviews that drive enterprise-wide architectural excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute high-impact AI initiatives from conception to global production, ensuring solutions are simple, scalable, and innovative.
  • Serve as the lead technical liaison between GTO and business units, translating engineering challenges into agentic AI solutions.
  • Define the long-term technical roadmap for AI orchestration, currently leveraging LangGraph while retaining flexibility to adapt.
  • Combine production-grade fullstack development with AI logic and set standards for building non-deterministic software at scale.
  • Conduct formal design reviews, mentor senior staff, and propose architectural options that advance team capabilities.
  • Partner with the infrastructure team to optimize deployment of AI models and vector databases within Kubernetes environments.
  • Communicate AI roadmaps and project statuses to technical teams and executive stakeholders.
