About The Position

Requirements

General understanding of medical terminology
Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT codes
Experience with computer software programs such as MS Office, Signature, TDS
Experience in a hospital or medical office setting
Demonstrated knowledge of registration, third party payers, government funded programs, and managed care
Demonstrated experience with referral authorization process
Must be able to provide proof of work authorization

Nice To Haves

Previous experience as an admitting worker or surgery scheduler
Familiarity with UC policies and procedures
Familiarity of JCAHO requirements

Responsibilities

Scheduling patients for Interventional Radiology (IR) procedures.
Ensuring all necessary paperwork is completed and forwarded to appropriate departments.
Assisting in determining if the patient's source of funding covers the proposed surgery/procedure and inquiring about expiration dates.
Determining that physician documentation reflects the need for the proposed surgery/procedure.
Coordinating procedure date and time based on physician, staff, room, and anesthesiologist availability/schedule.
Communicating effectively with patients to obtain demographic and financial data.
Providing accurate wait time estimates when available.
Acting as a liaison between admissions, other departments, and IR.
Notifying departments, services, physicians, and the patient if a procedure date/time is rescheduled and updating all as necessary.
Inputting demographic and financial data into the SMS System following basic computer flows and codes.
