About The Position

This is a provisional appointment. Brief Job Description (essential functions of the position): Under the direction of the Commissioner of Public Works, represents the Public Works department at a wide variety of community meetings, forums, and conferences so as to achieve close cooperation between community organizations and the Public Works Department.

Requirements

  • Applicant(s) must have at least four (4) years of full-time or equivalent part-time administrative, managerial, or professional experience in the field of business administration.
  • The major duties in such position(s) shall have included one or more of the following functions: purchasing, personnel administration, budgetary control, accounting, records management, financial administration, or program management.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
  • BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a liaison with other city departments on matters related to the Public Works department.
  • Acts as liaison with various city, state, and federal entities regarding various Public Works projects.
  • Establishes and maintains effective procedures for handling complaints, inquiries, and requests for information from all sources relative to the work of the Public Works Department so as to assure referral to the proper authority, prompt investigation, and completion of work necessitated.
  • Prepares estimates of work to be done and costs associated with department activities.
  • Prepares reports as required by the Commissioner of Public Works.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Required to work any emergency as directed by the Commissioner of Public Works.
