The Additive Manufacturing Process and Capability Center (AMPCC) encompasses a critical mass of Additive Manufacturing (AM) process and industrialization experts, the necessary equipment, and develops the strategic collaborations needed to rapidly mature the technology and manufacturing readiness of AM. The AMPCC is focused on the research, development, and deployment of additive manufacturing tools and processes for our business units. The Principal Additive Manufacturing Process Engineer will be challenged with solving unique and interesting problems to enable new commercial aerospace and defense products. They will be responsible for one or more of the following activities as they relate to the AMPCC, including: Support RTX Business Units by providing process expertise and IQ/OQ/MQ tools and best practices to increase the rate of additive adoption Design advanced measurement tools capable of characterizing machine inputs and melt pool / material responses Lead process development activity to improve print capability, increase speed, reduce cost and enhance material performance in support of advanced RTX Business Unit product initiatives Develop tools for elucidating the Process-Structure-Property relationships of additive materials Collaborate with government, industry, academic, and RTX Business Unit partners to develop whitepapers, project concepts, and responsive proposals Execute and oversee development builds on a wide variety of Additive Manufacturing machines Work with cross-functional teams including materials, design, simulation, operations, and characterization engineers to support and improve the full value stream Summarize and communicate results of key programs to upper management

Requirements

  • The preferred candidate should have a strong understanding of engineering principles and hands on experience working with laboratory equipment.
  • Candidate must be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, collaborative team environment focused on innovation and have demonstrated both verbal and written communication skills including:
  • Typically requires a University Engineering Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or an advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience
  • Minimum 1 year scripting experience with Matlab, Python, VBA, JavaScript or similar
  • Minimum 2 years experience with CAD tools
  • Hands-on experience operating additive manufacturing equipment
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.​ U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Active and existing security clearance required after day 1

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred candidates for this position will have a PhD in Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing Engineering or related technical field.
  • A minimum 3.5 GPA is desirable.
  • Working understanding of manufacturing machine sensors and control systems
  • Working understanding of AM processes including laser powder bed fusion
  • Demonstrated expertise in metal LPBF Additive Manufacturing tools and processes
  • Experience utilizing advanced AM build processors to design custom LPBF tool paths
  • Experience utilizing statistical analysis software packages (Minitab, Stat-Ease360, or similar)
