About The Position

At RTX, the world largest aerospace and defense company, 185,000 great minds are united by purpose and inspired to make a difference solving the world’s most complex problems. With our three market leading businesses, world-class operations and investments in research and development, we offer capabilities and opportunity no one else can. Together, we push the boundaries of known science and find new ways to connect and protect our world. Join us and help shape the future of aerospace and defense. The Additive Manufacturing Process and Capability Center (AMPCC) encompasses a critical mass of Additive Manufacturing (AM) process and industrialization experts, the necessary equipment, and develops the strategic collaborations needed to rapidly mature the technology and manufacturing readiness of AM. The AMPCC focuses on the research, development and deployment of additive manufacturing tools and processes for our business units. The Principal Additive Manufacturing Design Engineer will be challenged with solving unique and interesting problems to enable new commercial aerospace and defense products. They will be responsible for one or more of the following activities as they relate to the AMPCC, including: Development, demonstration, and documentation of design methodologies and tools for additive manufacturing including conventional CAD and implicit modeling-based approaches Enhancement of design tools through the development of custom modules and scripts Topology Optimization for generation of geometries enabled by additive manufacturing across structural, thermal, or hydrodynamic domains Execution of Design for Additive Manufacturing (DFAM) projects to support business unit evaluation and adoption of additively manufactured components and systems Definition of AM software tools and methodologies for interconnection of individual tools into a unified toolchain Establish relationships with government, industry, academic, and RTX Business Units and lead development of whitepapers, project concepts, and responsive proposals Provide training and knowledge transfer to RTX Business Units while disseminating best practices to increase the rate of additive adoption Management of multiple design, development, and demonstration projects
