General Description The Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) is a state organization dedicated to helping build strong, vibrant communities through the development of safe, decent and affordable housing. DCA is seeking a Principal Accountant for its Georgia Housing Finance Authority (GHFA) team. Under general supervision and according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), this position performs advanced professional accounting duties that require independent judgement and initiative. Duties include analyzing, recording, and interpreting financial transactions, preparing specialized and standard accounting reports and providing information to auditors and other third parties. This position reconciles cash and investment activity to externally held investment portfolios, enters daily cash management activity from external systems, records investment purchase and sales transactions and other related portfolio activity for our mortgage loan programs.

Requirements

Knowledge of the relationship of GL balance and its subsidiary ledger balances, reconciliation of source data to accounting modules
Ability to accurately prepare accounting entries and adjustments and perform mathematical computations
Ability to retrieve information from the accounting system and identify and investigate discrepancies
Ability to work with federal forms and applicable regulations
Ability to review source documents, such as accounting reports, invoices, reviews, analyses and resolves related problems
Ability to provide support to auditors and other reviewers and perform clerical responsibilities
Responds to requests for information and assist colleagues in resolving clerical and accounting issues
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
Ability to meet strict deadlines and collaborate with program managers
Skill in Excel and data analysis methods
Ability to interpret and present data to management team
Ability to manage multiple tasks
Master's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university AND Two year of professional accounting experience
Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university AND Three years of professional accounting experience
Bachelor's degree in business curriculum from an accredited college or university AND Four years of professional accounting experience
Bachelor's degree in accounting and three (3) years of professional accounting job-related experience
Two years of experience at the lower level Accountant 3 (FIP022) or position equivalent
