The Primary Care Physician performs comprehensive medical history evaluations and physical examinations on patients ranging from pediatric to geriatric populations. Diagnose medical conditions and order appropriate laboratory tests, imaging studies (e.g., X-rays), and other diagnostic procedures as needed. Refer patients to external hospitals or physicians for services not available within the Indian Health Service (Client) Healthcare Delivery System. Coordinate patient referrals through the Purchase Referred Care (PRC) office to ensure eligibility and proper scheduling for further diagnosis or procedures. Collaborate with other agencies or health facilities on behalf of patients and their families to arrange admissions to hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, and skilled nursing facilities. Organize emergency ground and/or air medical transport as required. Analyze clinical data, develop therapeutic programs, and communicate information effectively to patients and their families. The Primary Care Physician provides support to patients and families in times of illness. Maintain accurate and timely Electronic Health Records (EHR) with detailed clinical documentation, including diagnosis codes. Complete all EHR notes within 24 hours of patient encounters. Prescribe medications and treatment therapies in coordination with nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare personnel. Follow up on treatment plans and monitor patient progress. Provide ongoing individual counseling for common social and emotional issues. Recognize the need for referral to a mental health professional when necessary. The Primary Care Physician consults independently with medical and surgical specialists to discuss patient care and arrange referrals as needed to appropriate health facilities.
