About The Position

The Pricing Specialist role will work collaboratively with the Sales and Operations teams in developing timely and effective pricing and capacity identification for RFP, project, and spot market opportunities. Primary pricing responsibilities are to develop and grow relationships with Landstar-approved carriers, identifying those that can add value to our customer networks; to gather and analyze current market pricing indicators, historical data, and carrier feedback to assist Operations Managers more accurately with meeting customer requests for pricing; and to obtain and manage the most current carrier data available to efficiently support our Sales and Operations teams.

Requirements

  • Experience in truckload carrier development and/or carrier sales is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is a plus.
  • 2–5 years of dispatch operations experience, including direct work with drivers, is preferred.
  • Strong customer service (from a logistics background involving phone experience).
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent follow-up.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate with transportation providers to secure optimal rates and service levels.
  • Maintain strong relationships with carriers to ensure capacity and pricing feedback are aligned.
  • Communicate effectively with carriers, clients and internal operations team members.
  • Prioritize pricing workload that can directly impact timely service, quality and performance.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and proactive approach in a fast-paced environment.
  • Utilize industry-specific systems, company reference materials, customer portals and expertise to manage pricing requests.
  • Assist Sales and Operations Team in finding capacity for: challenging spot or project lanes; new carriers in specific geographic markets; specific modes or equipment types, or special requirements such as TWIC, Hazmat, etc. Information gathered will include tractor and trailer counts, equipment types, network/backhaul lane needs, preferred lane information, relevant certifications, service offerings/limitations, and detailed contact information.
  • Identify carriers who match RFP and project lane criteria by analyzing databases and by calling and vetting potential carrier matches.
  • Evaluate carrier RFP feedback and communicate with carriers via phone and email to negotiate contract rates and vet carrier capability on lane volumes quoted.
  • Manage customer contract pricing opportunities from cradle to grave, using historical, market, and carrier data to initiate, analyze, review, and submit RFPs/project quotes using pricing tools and carrier outreach via phone and email.
  • Provide Operations with contact information, pricing and service expectations agreed upon for new carriers developed for an RFP or project customer response.
  • Construct and maintain pricing templates for Ops review and sales submission.
  • Maintain pricing dashboards and customer portals.
