Preventive Maintenance Technician

Ira GreenProvidence, RI
Onsite

About The Position

Ira Green is a manufacturer of military insignia and decorative metal goods. Our production floor runs a wide range of industrial equipment - stamping presses, hydraulic and progressive presses, an electroplating line, and finishing and packaging machinery. We are building a proactive maintenance function and are looking for an experienced Preventive Maintenance Technician to own equipment uptime across the plant. This is not a reactive break-fix role. The primary mission is to keep critical production equipment running through a disciplined preventive maintenance program, reducing unplanned downtime, extending equipment life, and protecting on-time delivery. You will respond to equipment failures when they occur, but your core job is preventing them.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of industrial/manufacturing maintenance experience (not facilities or property maintenance).
  • Demonstrated ability across both mechanical and electrical systems - hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical drivetrains, motors, electrical troubleshooting, and basic controls/PLC familiarity.
  • Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance practices; able to build and run a PM program, not just react to breakdowns.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills with the judgment to find root cause, not just restore a machine.
  • Comfort documenting work and using basic systems to track maintenance activity.
  • Working knowledge of LOTO and industrial safety standards.
  • Understanding machine guarding, emergency-stop systems, and OSHA/regulatory compliance requirements for production equipment.
  • Self-directed and reliable - able to own equipment uptime with limited supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with stamping presses, plating/electroplating lines, or metal-finishing equipment.
  • Welding, fabrication, or machining skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, execute, and continuously improve a preventive maintenance program across stamping, polishing, finishing, plating, and packaging equipment, including PM schedules, inspection routines, and standard work.
  • Perform scheduled inspections, lubrication, adjustments, and component replacement on hydraulic presses, drop hammers, progressive presses, plating/polishing equipment, and packaging machinery.
  • Diagnose and repair both mechanical and electrical faults - hydraulics, pneumatics, drives, motors, controls, and basic PLC/relay logic, restoring equipment to running condition with minimal disruption.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records: work performed, parts used, downtime causes, and recurring failure patterns, to drive root-cause analysis and PM improvements.
  • Identify chronic problem equipment and recommend repairs, rebuilds, or upgrades, partnering with management on larger interventions.
  • Manage spare parts and critical-component inventory for key machines so the right parts are on hand when needed.
  • Follow and help expand plant safety procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO); become an authorized employee on assigned equipment.
  • Verify that equipment operates in a safe, compliant condition - machine guarding properly mounted, emergency stops functional, and machines meeting applicable OSHA, CE, UL, and other regulatory standards - and correct or escalate deficiencies before equipment is returned to service.
