About The Position

The Tooele County Health Department is seeking a Prevention Specialist to promote healthy, substance-free lifestyles in Wendover, Utah. The position delivers evidence-based education to youth, families, and community members through group sessions, presentations, workshops, and outreach aligned with coalition goals and objectives. The specialist works independently and collaboratively with community partners, coworkers, and stakeholders while managing multiple priorities with professionalism and flexibility. The position works under the general supervision of the Prevention Specialist Coordinator and has no supervisory responsibilities. The role includes coordinating prevention efforts with the Wendover Prevention Group, developing and managing grants and strategic action plans, collecting and sharing data, supporting coalition and stakeholder reporting, providing technical assistance, and facilitating evidence-based prevention courses. The specialist is also responsible for ensuring high-fidelity implementation of prevention interventions in the assigned community and may attend training in and out of state.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in public health, Health Education and Promotion, Social Work, or a closely related field.
Two years of professional prevention services experience.
Experience facilitating or assisting coalition work to align efforts with state and local prevention strategies and community support initiatives.
Experience with community programs.
Experience in teaching, presenting, or public speaking.

Responsibilities

Coordinate efforts to promote healthy, substance-free lifestyles in partnership with the Wendover Prevention Group.
Develop and implement Strategic Action Plans.
Develop, submit, and manage grants.
Collect and disseminate data about implemented strategies.
Facilitate grant and stakeholder reporting.
Provide technical assistance to local and regional coalitions and partnerships focused on community risk factors that can lead to serious mental health disturbances and/or suicide.
Facilitate evidence-based prevention courses for the community.
Oversee high-fidelity implementation of prevention interventions in the assigned community.
Work effectively with people from varied social, ethnic, economic, educational, and professional backgrounds.
Attend trainings in and out of state.
