About The Position

Sentara Health Plans is hiring a Prevention Nurse Specialist in Richmond, Virginia. This is a PRN position with variable hours, generally 8 am-5 pm. The position is located in Richmond, Virginia, covering the region from NOVA, south to Hampton. Travel reimbursement is provided. This is a remote PRN status position with Day Shift Hours, requiring onsite participation across the Richmond region. We are seeking an engaging and mission-driven health professional to deliver high-quality community and workplace wellness initiatives. In this role, you will contribute to a variety of health screenings and immunization events designed to empower individuals to take charge of their well-being. You will conduct one-on-one preventive screenings, including blood pressure assessments and fingerstick biometric testing, while using motivational interviewing and patient-centered communication to help participants understand their results and take meaningful steps toward reducing cardiovascular and lifestyle-related risks. As a trusted health partner, you’ll provide personalized guidance on key wellness topics such as tobacco cessation, adult immunizations, heart health, cancer prevention and early detection, and effective self-care practices. You will also administer seasonal influenza vaccinations in alignment with clinical standards and safety protocols.

Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Virginia or multistate license (MSL))
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or non-degree RN diploma
  • BLS Certification
  • Minimum 5 years' experience working as a registered nurse
  • Active, unrestricted driver’s license required for regional travel

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in community nursing
  • Experience in health prevention and/or health education
  • Experience providing care to patients with diabetes or cardiac risk factors
