About The Position

The Prevention Education Specialist is a key member of the Education Team, responsible for delivering impactful parent & caregiver workshops, professional trainings, and trauma-informed educational programming across Travis County. These interactive sessions focus on child abuse identification, prevention, and trauma awareness, equipping parents, caregivers, educators, child-serving professionals, and community members with practical knowledge and tools to protect and support children. This role coordinates and facilitates Center-developed prevention and education programs, while cultivating strong community partnerships through ongoing outreach to schools, organizations, and parent groups. The Prevention Education Specialist plays a vital role in advancing the Center’s mission by increasing awareness, strengthening prevention efforts, and promoting child safety throughout the community. The successful candidate must be bilingual (English/Spanish) and be able to communicate effectively with diverse populations.

Requirements

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (spoken and written) required
  • 2-4 years of experience delivering professional presentations, with demonstrated strong public speaking skills
  • 3-5 years of experience working with children and families in high-risk environments
  • Strong knowledge of child abuse and neglect, including signs and symptoms, reporting requirements, and intervention systems
  • Strong understanding of child abuse prevention, trauma, and child development
  • Demonstrated passion for and commitment to child abuse prevention and child protection
  • Reliable transportation required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with families and child victims of sexual and/or physical abuse, including involvement in child protection, crisis support, or counseling services, preferred
  • Licensed Social Worker or School Counselor preferred

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and conduct educational workshops and trainings for parents and caregivers, professionals, students, and community members on the prevention, identification, and reporting of child abuse and neglect
  • Facilitate and adapt programming for diverse audiences of varying sizes, backgrounds, ages, and abilities
  • Represent the Center and present at community events, as requested
  • Conduct Center tours for stakeholders and community members
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with staff, volunteers, and community partners
  • Cultivate ongoing relationships with schools, childcare centers, and community organizations to expand prevention education and child protection efforts
  • Network within the community to identify outreach opportunities and strengthen service impact
  • Develop, update and prepare educational materials for outreach and educational training
  • Assist in coordinating and executing multidisciplinary trainings for Child Protection Team members and Center staff
  • Ensure training content aligns with current best practices in prevention, trauma, and child development
  • Support strategic planning efforts by reviewing program effectiveness, identifying service gaps, and contributing to future program development
  • Collaborate with the Director of Outreach and Education to achieve departmental goals and initiatives
  • Maintain accurate records of all trainings, attendance, and evaluation data
  • Track participation through evaluations and data collection for required staff trainings
  • Ensure compliance with agency, licensing and regulatory requirements
  • Participate in continuing education related to child abuse prevention, trauma, and child development
  • Stay up to date on relevant research, legislation, and emerging trends in child and family welfare
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the Children’s Advocacy Center model, including mission, vision and core values
  • Maintain active professional licensure through required continuing education and timely renewal
  • Report any changes in licensure status or investigations to supervisor in accordance with policy
  • Demonstrate professionalism, adaptability, critical thinking and commitment to teamwork
  • Provide direct service support for forensic, therapy and medical cases, as needed
  • Attend monthly staff meetings, supervision with the Director of Outreach and Education, and assigned community meetings
  • Travel regularly and work independently in community and field-based settings
  • Perform other duties as assigned
