Smardt is looking to hire a Pressure Vessel Engineer to join our Dorval team! What We're Looking For: The Pressure Vessel Engineer is responsible for the design calculations related to the fabrication and design of pressure vessels.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years team management/leadership experience, preferred.
  • A minimum of 5-10 years’ experience with ASME codes is required.
  • A bachelor’s degree is required in Mechanical or related Engineering
  • Member of OIQ in good standing
  • Proficient knowledge in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel PowerPoint), required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with chiller or refrigeration systems, an asset.
  • Familiarity with ASME Section VIII Div. I design code, Section II material codes, Section IX welding and brazing code.
  • Experience with 3D modelling software. Autodesk Inventor or Solid Works, highly preferred, however, candidates familiar with other relevant software will be considered.
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE/ANSI/ASME codes and design requirements, an asset.
  • Familiarity with HVAC controls systems, a strong asset.
  • Familiarity with electrical systems, desired.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare design calculations for pressure vessels (S&T heat exchangers, Flash Tanks…) in compliance with ASME Sect. VIII Div. 1, using PV Elite, Excel and hand calculations.
  • Supply Mechanical Designers design specifications for ASME pressure part, non-pressure parts welded to pressure parts.
  • Create design drawings of pressure vessels using AutoCAD depicting material, design specifications, and fabrication details.
  • Register pressure vessels to applicable provinces to obtain Canadian Registration Numbers (CRNs) with all design calculation, drawings, applicable documentation per applicable provincial requirements, all in compliance with the Canadian Standards Association CSA B51.
  • Model by Inventor and analysis by FEA pressure and non-pressure parts to substantiate calculated stresses derived from ASME, TEMA and various stress handbooks.
  • Monitor and apply updates from ASME Code, CSA B51 & company standards to designs, drawings, technical documents, work procedures, design reports & pressure vessel application processes.
  • Investigate and calculate new R&D pressure vessel project designs and substantiate them in accordance with ASME Sect. VIII Div. 1, FEA and engineering judgement.
  • Process ASME audits by working with the body’s selected individuals and fulfilling their requests.
  • All other tasks as delegated by the Engineering Manager.
