About The Position

A Pressure Relief Valve (PRV) Technician inspects, tests, repairs, and calibrates safety relief valves to ensure compliance with ASME and API standards, preventing industrial system failures. Responsibilities include disassembly, machining, lapping, and pressure testing, both in shop and field environments, requiring mechanical proficiency, safety diligence, and meticulous documentation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree in mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Technology or associated NCCER certifications in Industrial Maintenance Mechanic, Millwright and Pipe Fitter.
  • 3–5 years of experience as an industrial technician, particularly in heavy industrial maintenance or manufacturing environments.
  • Possesses knowledge of ASME/Code requirements for PSV devices.
  • Communication Skills – Comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to draft routine reports and correspondence.
  • The ability to understand information, ideas, direction and then can perform the task or project discussed.
  • Maintains quality service, and customer satisfaction initiatives by establishing and enforcing organization standards.
  • Possesses general computer skills (i.e., email, WORD, Excel programs), good verbal communications skills, including phone, radio, and plant communication systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections, routine maintenance, and diagnostic testing (e.g., oil analysis, vibration monitoring) to prevent failures.
  • Analyze mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues, implementing corrective actions to restore machinery function.
  • Clean, disassemble, and inspect PRV components for wear or damage.
  • Lap, repair, and reassemble valves to meet manufacturing standards.
  • Use test benches to conduct hydrostatic or pneumatic tests to verify set pressure and seat tightness.
  • Accurately maintain service reports, Valve Service History, and tagging documentation.
  • Record maintenance activity in CMMS (e.g., SAP, PIMS), track equipment downtime, and analyze failure modes to suggest improvements.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations (e.g., 5S principles, lockout/tagout) to ensure safe working, following OSHA regulations, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and company quality procedures.
