About The Position

Responsible for making quality production parts, setting up and operating shearing, blanking, notching, piercing, and metal forming operations on various products and different types of machines. This role involves performing set-ups, safety inspections, and machine operations in a safe manner. The operator will read and interpret drawings and routings to determine material requirements and quantities, and make adjustments to setups to ensure quality parts. Responsibilities include checking parts for defects, reporting hours and production quantities, and safely handling and moving materials. Quality inspections, adherence to standard operating procedures, and maintaining a clean work area are also key aspects of this position. The role may also involve training other employees and assuming additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 1+ years’ experience in machine operation, set up, mechanical position within a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • High level of mechanical aptitude required.
  • Understanding of quality requirement and of ISO 9001:2015 procedures.
  • Knowledge of labor cards, routing and move tickets.
  • Experience working with Lean Manufacturing Principles and Concepts preferred.
  • Knowledge of department procedures and applicable system transactions.
  • Able to read and understand blueprints, diagrams and work instructions.
  • Knowledge of company policies, shop and safety rules.
  • Verbal and written communication in English.
  • Knowledge on the care and use of inspection devices/tools.
  • Basic computer and math skills.
  • Exceptional attention to details.
  • Strong motivation, high energy and ability to work independently or with a team.
  • As required, ability to perform repetitive bending, kneeling, and lift cumbersome and or heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).

Responsibilities

  • Perform set up, safety inspection and machine operations as required in a safe manner.
  • Read and interpret drawings and routings to determine requirements such as size of material, type of material and the quantity to be made.
  • Make adjustments to setups to make quality parts.
  • Check parts for defects (burrs, missing holes, cracks, etc.) from previous operations during present operation.
  • Report hours and production quantities in the applicable system.
  • Use the safest procedure for handling, stacking and moving the material with a cart, hand truck or forklift as necessary.
  • Perform hourly and first piece quality inspections and tracking of material utilizing appropriate measuring instruments and tools.
  • Adherence to standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure the move ticket is filled out complete and attached to the load.
  • Comply with all health and safety procedures.
  • Adhere to basic housekeeping of work area; i.e., wood, scrap metal, garbage, liquid spills.
  • Train other employees.
  • Assume additional duties as assigned by Supervisor or Department Assistant.
