About The Position

Press Setup Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining slide forming machines and punch presses used to manufacture precision metal components. This role ensures products are produced safely, efficiently, and to quality specifications by interpreting blueprints and work instructions, performing inspections, recording quality data, and supporting production control processes. The operator works closely with the Tooling Department to resolve tooling issues, improve processes, and minimize downtime while maintaining a clean and organized work environment. This position plays a critical role in achieving production goals, preventing scrap contamination, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives while adhering to ARaymond's Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one year of machine operation and machine setup experience required.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and proven record of reliability and dependability.
  • Ability to understand and follow work instructions and in-process documentation, effectively troubleshoot issues and work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to safe work practices and consistently comply with ARaymond's Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards, policies, and values.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate situations, make sound decisions, and interpret instructions provided in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule formats.

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform machine setups, adjustments, tooling changes, and basic equipment troubleshooting in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to use measuring devices and inspection equipment to verify product quality and ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify process deviations, quality concerns, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple tasks, and respond effectively to changing production requirements.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate with operators, supervisors, maintenance personnel, and quality team members to resolve production issues.

Responsibilities

  • Tear down, operate, and facilitate the setup, maintenance, and changeover of one or more slide forming machines or punch presses used to automatically punch, cut, and form metal strips and wire into metal stampings.
  • Tend to production machines following setup and demonstrate an understanding of proper lubricating oil usage, collection, and disposal procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Tooling Department to troubleshoot tooling issues and implement continuous improvements.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and Operator Instruction Sheets to monitor and ensure product quality requirements are met.
  • Utilize proper measurement techniques, record dimensional inspection results, and enter quality data into the SAP system.
  • Perform system transactions and complete all required administrative activities to support and maintain production control processes.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, machine malfunctions, and process failures within the cell to improve efficiency while maintaining operational and visual awareness of production equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked work area in accordance with safety and housekeeping standards.
  • Assist with tooling removal at the completion of production runs, clean equipment, and perform pre-set up activities to prepare for future jobs.
  • Understand the impact and cost of scrap contamination and actively prevent contamination through proper material handling and process discipline.
  • Comply with all company health and safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Participate in all required health and safety training courses to stay informed about best practices and regulatory requirements.
