About The Position

Safely operate production metal stamping equipment to produce the required number of parts that meet customer and company quality standards in a timely manner. This role involves starting, running, and shutting down an automatic metal stamping press, skilled adjustment of the press to set and center dies, and loading steel coils. The operator will also be responsible for producing parts, performing quality tasks, operator preventive maintenance, operating a forklift and overhead crane, and maintaining a clean workstation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to walk and sit.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

Responsibilities

  • Safely start, run, and shut down an automatic metal stamping press
  • Skilled in adjusting the press to set and center dies and bring parts into tolerance
  • Experienced with loading steel coils onto coilers, making sure coil is aligned from coiler, through straightener, through feeder into the die
  • Adjust roller pressure on equipment to influence material presentation and control through the die
  • Understand how feed and alignment of material influence part performance
  • Use calipers, micrometers, digital indicators, complex gauges for checking part conformance to tolerances
  • Set up all peripheral equipment such as guards, conveyors, and lubricators
  • Produce the required number of parts the meet customer and quality standards in a timely manner
  • Perform production related quality tasks such as using hand held gauges to measure or gauging parts
  • Properly handle non-conforming material
  • Properly label and package parts
  • Properly complete the quality documentation system forms and comply with company calibration procedures
  • Perform operator preventive maintenance on automatic metal stamping press including but not limited to cleaning slugs and scrap from the press bed, press reservoirs, press trays, under and around the press, maintaining coolant and hydraulic oil levels, wiping down workbench surfaces, press control surfaces, monitor motor belts for damage or replacement needs, powering all equipment off when not in use, proper care of shaker trays and motors
  • Safely operate a forklift and overhead crane
  • Ensure that housekeeping at the work station is clean, neat and organized while in operation and at the end of shift
