About The Position

The Printing Press Operator reports to the Production Supervisor of the Printing Department. This role is responsible for preparing the press for flexographic printing, including set-up, and for all aspects of quality and productivity associated with materials processed through assigned machinery. The position requires skill progression and testing. The press operator is responsible for all aspects of the printing press run, including orientation of flexographic plates, flexographic ink distribution, job setup, preparing printing presses for quality printing, and the press run itself. This entails preparation, set-up, production, troubleshooting, quality checks, and routine equipment management. The operator must notify management of any equipment malfunctions, damage, or repair needs and maintain production and quality standards. They will organize workflow for smooth operation and make necessary adjustments while monitoring equipment to ensure product compliance with the work order.

Requirements

  • Must have good speaking skills.
  • Must be able to read, write and understand English.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and employees both in person and through written and verbal correspondence.
  • Ability to perform duties with minimal direction and be self motivated.
  • Ability to read and understand a measuring tape.
  • Being mechanically inclined is essential.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure.
  • Regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel; manual dexterity is required with exposure to arm, wrist and back fatigue.
  • Bending, squatting, twisting, kneeling, sitting, carrying, standing in one place, reaching, pushing and pulling for general duties.
  • Occasionally required to walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
  • Occasional climbing/descending of stairs as well as pushing a broom to clean the production floor is required.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 65 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and depth perception.

Nice To Haves

  • High school graduation or its equivalent preferred.
  • Prior Central Impression Press operation preferred.
  • Knowledge of late model, automatic presses is also preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the preferred knowledge, skills and abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Notify management whenever equipment is found to be malfunctioning, damaged, or in need of repair.
  • Maintain production and quality standards as set forth by Department Manager.
  • Organizes work flow for smooth operation.
  • Makes necessary adjustments and monitors equipment so that product complies with work order.
  • Adhere to safety policies and procedures in compliance with Amcor’s guidelines.
  • Visually inspects the facility for tripping hazards, equipment safeguards and helps to maintain a clean work environment.
