About The Position

The Press Operator is responsible for assisting the press operator in various tasks related to the printing process. This includes preparing materials, cleaning equipment, monitoring ink levels and viscosity, and performing preventive maintenance. The role requires attention to detail in reviewing specifications and ensuring proper operation of the press.

Requirements

  • Ability to review specs such as Job Order, Print Master, Proofs, and Samples.
  • Ability to clean pumps, lines, trays, ink rollers, and doctor blade units with proper solvent.
  • Ability to transfer inks to the correct pump and reduce to the specific startup viscosity.
  • Ability to assist the press operator in changing out plate cylinders and aniloxes.
  • Ability to obtain supplies (cores, make-ready stock, cleaning materials, etc.) needed for setups.
  • Ability to obtain the correct material allocated to the present job.
  • Ability to determine material needs, fill out the material request form, and turns it into the shipping department for staging.
  • Ability to keep rolls loaded on the unwind stand and have taped up for splicing.
  • Ability to help press operator remove rolls from rewind spindles and package roll according to specifications.
  • Ability to periodically add ink to ink reservoir to maintain a specified level.
  • Ability to set automatic viscometers to maintain ink viscosity.
  • Ability to manually take and record periodic viscosity readings to ensure proper operation, and trouble shoot any malfunctions.
  • Ability to ensure solvent drums are in place and maintained with the proper solvents.
  • Ability to check and adjust ink flows from pump to ensure proper ink circulation.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance.
  • Ability to perform all other duties assigned by press operator or lead person.
