About The Position

Boyd Corp is seeking a skilled Press Operator to join our team in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This on-site role involves operating production equipment to produce good, quality products efficiently and with a focus on quality. The Press Operator will be responsible for setting up and running machines, ensuring product specifications are met, and performing minor maintenance. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to new product introductions and process improvements.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to read and understand "Change Spec. Card Procedure".
Ability to read and understand "Non-Conforming Product Procedure".
Ability to operate production equipment to produce good, quality product in an efficient/quality-oriented manner.
Ability to make suggestions for ways to improve production process.
Ability to work with sales and estimating to test/run samples for new product introduction.
Ability to make sure product being produced matches the spec card and the degree of quality needed (tolerances etc..).
Ability to update spec card for future runs when process is changed.
Ability to observe machine operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunctions; adjust machines as necessary.
Ability to change worn machine accessories such as cutting tools and brushes, using hand tools.
Ability to perform minor machine maintenance, such as oiling or cleaning machines, changing filters or adding lubricant to the Rotary press when necessary.
Ability to notify supervisors when major service is required.
Ability to maintain a clean and safe work area.
Must have less than 1-year experience requires sign-off from experienced operator with over 1 year experience for "Sign-off Check List".

Responsibilities

Read and understand "Change Spec. Card Procedure" and "Non-Conforming Product Procedure".
Retrieve work order information and corresponding materials, work orders, and instructions.
Determine and obtain the correct tooling for the job from the tooling rack, attach bearer blocks, and slide into the tooling station.
Set up the machine for the appropriate job.
Retain supplier raw material tags with lot and run information, along with "Approved for Use" tags, or record relevant details if only using partial material.
Complete "Sign-off Check List", requiring sign-off from an experienced operator if the operator has less than 1 year of experience.
Print necessary tags (core or box) and labels, ensuring correct information and material usage.
Place and feed material into the machine, adjusting for center run.
Place adhesive in the machine and align with materials.
Start the machine, adjusting tension and alignment as needed.
Pass material through to the die cutting station, removing waste or air-injection.
Adjust nip-roller speed for proper speed and dimensions of the part.
Verify part against print and/or mylar, recording dimensions.
Retain the first approved piece with a label on the back.
Complete In-Process check sheets during the run.
Complete End-of-Run sign off confirming required parts were produced.
Retain the last approved piece with a label on the back.
Maintain a clean and safe work area, cleaning the floor, machine, and work area at the end of each job and shift.
Cut cores for specific jobs when needed.
Obtain necessary boxes and materials for the job.
Operate production equipment to produce good, quality product efficiently.
Make suggestions for improving the production process.
Work with sales and estimating to test/run samples for new product introduction.
Ensure product matches the spec card and quality requirements (tolerances).
Update spec cards for future runs when processes are changed.
Observe machine operation to detect defects or malfunctions and make adjustments.
Change worn machine accessories using hand tools.
Perform minor machine maintenance, such as oiling, cleaning, changing filters, or adding lubricant.
Notify supervisors when major service is required.
