About The Position

The Press Operator in Training (O.I.T) is a hands-on role responsible for learning magnet press operations while ensuring safety, quality, and consistent production output. This position serves as a role to grow into an advanced operator role, supporting the qualified operators and Production Supervisor by providing daily operational assistance, learning troubleshooting and diagnostics, and ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and production standards.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED, required.
1 year of manufacturing experience, including press operation or similar precision equipment.
Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of machine operation principles.
Ability to read and interpret work instructions, technical specifications, and quality requirements.
Proficient in basic math related to measurements, pressures, and production quantities.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain consistent quality standards in a fast-paced environment.
Must be able to pass a drug screening, medical physical, and any required vision testing.
Able to move up to 50lbs.
Possesses manual dexterity to put parts or pieces together quickly and accurately.
Can wear PPE.
Comfortable standing for long periods of time, up to and exceeding 60 minutes.
Capable of making repetitive movements, including, but not limited to, sitting, squatting, and walking up and down stairs.

Responsibilities

Learn and assist in the setting up, operating, and optimizing magnet press equipment, including die alignment, pressure settings, and cycle times to meet required magnet properties.
Develop a foundational understanding of press operation, powder handling, and compaction processes.
Learn to monitor and identify issues such as uneven powder distribution, pressure fluctuations, or equipment malfunctions.
Receive work priorities and daily direction from the shift lead or supervisor.
Participate actively in training, coaching, and mentoring from senior Press Operators on standard work, safety requirements, quality expectations, and troubleshooting techniques.
Focus on skill development and mastering standard manufacturing work.
Communicate effectively with Operators, Team Lead, Production Supervisors, Quality, Engineering, and Maintenance to address issues and maintain production flow.
Learn to inspect pressed magnets for size, shape, density, and magnetic strength to ensure compliance with quality standards.
Develop skills to make basic machine adjustments to maintain consistent quality and reduce scrap.
Learn to diagnose/report common and complex press issues, including jams, misaligned dies, and pressure inconsistencies; escalate as needed.
Perform routine and preventive maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, and inspection of press components.
Assist Operators in identifying wear or potential failures and coordinating timely repairs with Maintenance.
Maintain accurate production and quality records, including batch numbers, pressures, cycle times, and inspection results.
Model and enforce adherence to all safety protocols, including PPE requirements and lockout/tagout procedures.
Maintain a clean, organized, and audit-ready press area.
Promote a strong safety culture and proactively address unsafe conditions or behaviors.
