About The Position

North American Stamping Group, a Tier II supplier of components, systems, and aftermarket products for the automotive industry, is seeking a Press Lead at their facility in Portland, TN. Founded in 1978, the company has experienced significant annual growth and is an industry leader in the manufacturing of stampings and automated assemblies. The Press Lead will be responsible for coordinating production, motivating team members, and ensuring adherence to TQPS (Total Quality Production System) principles of Safety, Quality, Efficiency, & Cost Reduction. This role involves assigning work, meeting production deadlines, interpreting and applying policies, and appraising and disciplining team members. The Press Lead will also coordinate Continuous Improvement activities through ongoing training and teaching using TQPS principles.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Demonstrated Leadership, Communication, & Facilitation Skill Sets
  • Minimum two (2) years press experience with progressive, &/or transfer dies, &/or weld assembly processes.
  • Tow motor experience lifting dies and heavy loads.
  • Demonstrated capability of using measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges)
  • Intermediate skills in the use of EXCEL & Microsoft WORD
  • Proficient Math, Computer, & Communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree or equivalent experience of at least 2 years in a fast-paced Production Environment with an emphasis in Stamping / Welding.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance to Safety Policies and Practices.
  • Ensure 5-S standards are maintained.
  • Ensure & enforce the use of Safety Blocks.
  • Follow the lockout/tagout procedure.
  • Keep all safety curtain/guards in place during operation.
  • Review & submit suggestions to improve the Safety Environment in assigned areas.
  • Audit part quality throughout the shift.
  • Assist associate on first/last off part quality at changeover.
  • Verify Final visual audit inspection of all parts leaving press area for quality.
  • Verify that containment pans are being used as specified for batch quantities.
  • Ensure proper containment procedures are followed when poor quality is detected.
  • Ensure Containment Checklist procedures are executed if product becomes contaminated.
  • Arrange manpower as needed to meet production requirements.
  • Confirm attendance of Team members and report out to the Group Leader.
  • Quickly assist associates when machines go idle - escalate problem to next level.
  • Able to fill-in as needed for any assigned job in the area of responsibility.
  • Follow the Standard Operating Procedures guidelines-dies come out of press if they aren't running.
  • Assist associates in changeovers - conduct external elements prior to start of changeover.
  • Responsible for appraisal & discipline of work team members.
  • Conduct walk-thru's for confirmation of Associates adherence to daily activities - 5-S, TPM, etc.
  • Hourly review of Production Lean Boards.
  • Write & follow-up on Work Orders as needed for repairs in assigned area.
  • Suggest methods of improvement, (i.e. Continuous Improvement Plan & A.I. Team Suggestion Routers).
  • Identify training needs of Associates.
  • Attend Management A.I. Team monthly to report out on cell progress & opportunities.
  • Assure compliance of self and subordinates with NASG procedures and standards.
  • Continuous interaction with associates to drive the TQPS philosophy (Lean Boards, C/O, A.I. teams, etc.).
  • Relieve Associates for unscheduled breaks.
  • Ensure all 31-day charts, 5S checklist, TPM checks, reports, etc.… are turned in and replenished as required.
  • Report all Quality, Production, or Safety problems to the Group Leader.
  • Find problem - fix problem (Initiate Temporary Process Change when problems can't be quickly resolved).
  • Ensure work orders are submitted for items needing repair in your area.
  • Assist Group Leaders in tracking all Work Orders, Tooling or Maintenance, for timely & accurate repairs.
  • Be available for A.I. team meetings as required & requested.
  • Keep die set-up sheets up to date.
  • Ensure adequate information is passed down to on-coming shifts to avoid unnecessary downtime.
