About The Position

Conducts and operates computer numeric controlled (CNC) equipment for an organization. This role focuses on 1st shift operations and involves programming and operating CNC brake presses for metal fabrication, including complex multi-bend forming sequences for tight tolerance sheet metal and copper bus bar components. The position also requires producing and validating first-article components, supporting prototype builds, performing quality inspections, maintaining equipment, and collaborating with other departments.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of senior-level experience operating and programming CNC brake presses in a metal fabrication environment.
  • Advanced capability in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, drawing tolerance and critical dimensions.
  • Proven experience producing first article and prototype components.
  • Strong understanding of forming technology, bend allowances, springback, tooling selection, and material characteristics.
  • Proficient with CNC controls and programming software (Trumpf Boost experience highly preferred).
  • Excellent problem-solving ability in a fast paced, high mix production environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to collaborate across teams.
  • Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with digital production systems.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and comply with PPE and safety requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with a Trumpf brake press highly desirable.
  • Experience with multiple brake press brands and control systems.
  • Exposure to continuous improvement programs (Lean, 6S, Kaizen).
  • Experience supporting new product introductions or custom prototype cycles.

Responsibilities

  • Program and optimize CNC brake press operations.
  • Execute complex, multi bend forming sequences for tight tolerance sheet metal and copper bus bar components.
  • Select, configure, and align tooling with precision; verify tooling compatibility and bend allowances prior to production.
  • Troubleshoot forming issues, refine programs, and ensure repeatable quality across all production runs.
  • Produce and validate first-article components, ensuring full compliance with engineering specifications and GD&T requirements.
  • Support prototype builds, offering expert input on manufacturability, bend methodology, tooling strategies, and material behavior.
  • Document changes, program updates, and tooling adjustments to maintain traceability and high quality production standards.
  • Perform comprehensive in process and final quality inspections using precision measurement tools (calipers, height gauges, protractors, etc.).
  • Interpret and apply detailed engineering drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerances.
  • Complete all production documentation, quality control reports, and part verification logs with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Maintain punches, dies, and all brake press tooling through proper cleaning, inspection, and sharpening routines.
  • Assist with routine equipment maintenance, including lubrication, calibration checks, and general cleanliness.
  • Contribute to process improvements and tooling optimization initiatives within the fabrication team.
  • Provide support to other fabrication areas as needed (e.g., laser cutting, grinding, deburring, assembly, hardware installation, packaging).
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to resolve issues and enhance workflow efficiency.
