About The Position

In a manufacturing environment, the Operator will be creating punch and form parts using various pieces of machinery. This role involves setting up, adjusting, and operating hydraulic and mechanical punch press equipment to blank, punch, and form parts. The apprentice will also learn to adjust ram strokes, work from drawings and specifications, use various measuring tools, and sort and package parts according to work instructions. Verification of material quantity and quality, moving raw materials, and making accurate transactions in the computer system are also key aspects of the role. Additionally, the position requires training less experienced operators, organizing work efficiently, and collaborating effectively within a team environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • One year minimum experience in press operation
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and engineering work instructions
  • Mechanical ability, manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination required to fabricate, repair various parts or tools using drawings and instructions
  • Practical knowledge and application of precision measuring instruments
  • Possess a good work ethic including following direction and reliability to perform job with limited supervision
  • Excellent attendance record
  • Must be literate (able to read & write English) and do basic arithmetic
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. or more repeatedly
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical specifications, common business documents, and industry publications.
  • Ability to respond effectively to inquires or complaints from manufacturing personnel. Ability to effectively present information to management, customers, vendors and employees.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inferences.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportional to practical situations.
  • Ability to work with principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.)
  • Must be an organized self-starter with good reasoning skills.
  • Must be able to work under general supervision and take direction.
  • Must possess basic personal computer skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products, to include Word, Excel, Power Point, Project and Microsoft Outlook.

  • Experience in multi-functional and product development teams preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set-up, adjust, and operate hydraulic and mechanical punch press equipment to blank, punch and form parts.
  • Adjust ram stroke to form materials to proper angle and radii.
  • Work from drawings, specifications, patterns, or templates.
  • Use scale, protractor, fixed angle and radii gauges.
  • Sorting and package parts per work instructions.
  • Verify quantity & quality of material.
  • Moves raw material to and from production areas as necessary.
  • Train less experienced press operators in safe and effective setup and operation techniques.
  • Organize work efficiently.
  • Work with others as part of a team which includes giving and receiving feedback, assisting others in completion of tasks, possess interpersonal, listening and participation skills.
  • Make accurate transactions in computer system as required.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Perform other duties assigned by Supervisor/Manager.
